Settling at nursery?

I am going back to work on Monday and in all honesty I am feeling ready for it although am going to miss LO to bits. I have arranged a nursery place for him and he has had 3 visits now, one with me staying and the other 2 him on his own. They went OK. He was OK with me leaving him but after about 15 mins got upset and then another baby cried so so did my LO and things like that. He went again today and was tired and cosied into one of the nursery staff and fell asleep!! I went back and he was snoring away still lying on the poor girl!!

Anyway my question is how long did it take for your LO to settle in? I will be at work Mondayy-Friday 9-3 (unfortunately) so he will be at nursery during these times. LO is just over 9 months

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks xx

hi, my LO will be starting nursery in a week when i go back and i'm in same position as you with worrying over settling in!

from what i've heard they tend to be settled relatively quickly...like within a week or two and then they accept the new routine of going to nursery

Well my situation is a bit different since my LO started much younger than yours. She started at 13 weeks (we only get 3 mnths maternity leave here) and after about two weeks she started getting into the rhythm of waking early, getting ready and going off every day. She's there from 8:30 am to 4:30 Mon-Fri. Three months on and she absolutely loves it. It's to the point that I think she's bored on weekends with me since at nursery she 'talks' to the other kids all day, there are puppet shows, she does finger painting and listens to music lol.

At my nursery to encourage an easy transition, ur allowed to bring ur baby's favourite toys, their mobile etc. so they're surrounded by familiar objects. Lena carries her blankie, sheep rattle and a little trumpet that she loves. Her first mobile is there too as she has her own crib. Maybe you can do that too.

Since ur LO is older, it may take a little longer since he's more attached to you maybe. It'll be fine tho and I'm sure he'll settle in no time and love it there. Good luck! Sorry I couldn't be more help.

HI you have made me feel better too. I spoke with the nursery today and they have said to bring in anything that will make him feel more comfortable.

Where are you that you only get 3 months leave?

Let me know how you get on with your LO. It just seems such a worry but maybe it's just because we are doimg something different again! I keep trying not to worry but I just keep getting wee reminders!!

Hi girls, I'm glad that I was able to reassure. Everything will be fine. Most times it's harder on us as mums than on them. I was a wreck in the beginning and cried the night before and all the first day of her at nursery. But seeing how excited she is to go and how well she's cared for has really put me at ease.

To answer ur ques, 2nd time mum, I'm in Barbados. Caribbean girl all the way!
