Just wondering... one child

Im looking for opinions on this.

Do you think its cruel/selfish of the parents or detrimental to a childs up bringing to be an only child?

not if they ensure that the child has lots of interaction with other children

mmm tricky one! I think it is a very personal opinion but for me I would want my LO to have a brother or sister.

I think it's fine to be an only child ~ the key will be to ensure they have plenty of socialising elsewhere.

I dont think its an issue at all as long as the child gets socialising with other children from mother/baby groups, nursery, school. Not many children are kept in an adult only bubble their entire lives so you pretty much dont have to worry!

I agree with the socializing with other children. To teach the importance of sharing, etc. I think it'd be a bit lonely for the child at times. Most of my best childhood memories include my brother and the adventures we'd have.

I know several only children and they only want one child themselves because they don't like the idea of siblings!

OH and I either want 2 very close in age or just the one. It does worry me about Bun not getting as much attention and opportunity - as we can provide very well for one, but it would be harder with two. We want to make sure we have the resources to let him pursue his goals and get good life experiences I actually think it's selfish to have a bunch of children you can't provide a good life for!

xx

OH and me are only having one, because he has another from a prev relationship and thinks he'd be too old for a third by the time we got around to it lol. I don't mind as I only wanted one anyway.

Hey hun,

Long time no see :-) Hope your enjoying motherhood! Your lo is super cute x

Anyway, no i dont think it is. I only want one child, although hubby does want another so its going to be tricky!
She already has 2 nieces living close by, then my Sister is due again next week so she will have a nephew very close in age too. Then i make sure we atttend pleanty of groups so she can socialise and make friends there.

When i was younger both my sisters were much older so i did feel quite unconnected to them. But i never felt lonley. I attended lots of after school clubs like Sea Scouts and had many friends there. I will make sure Chloe has the same oppertunities.

I've been pondering this too. Most of my childhood memories are with my brother, but then my parents didnt spend that much time with us. I would rather only have one so that I can provide everything he needs, but I also want him to have a friend to share his childhood with and to be there when me and his dad are gone.
