For moms who had growth scans during pregnancy

Hi Ladies, I have a question for those of you who have had growth checks on your baby when you were pregnant with them. If the ultrasound told you that you were having a large baby, how accurate was it for you, and what size was your baby at birth?

At 35.5. weeks mine is measuring 39-40 weeks with a 41 week head. He's thought to be 8lbs 3oz already. I know the ultrasounds can be off, although my tech triple measured everything and he has been measuring ahead since my 19 and 21 week scans. (But yes I am positive on my dates).

If you want to see the ultrasound pics with measurments printed on them check out my post in 3rd tri:

I'm just hoping to hear from some of you who have had your babies already to see how close your ultrasound estimate was to your babies actual birth size.

Thanks!!

Hey hunny i was having growth scans but because they said my baby would measure small... i was told my baby was on the small side of normal but when she came out she was a lot heavier than expected and if i had have carried to term (rather than being induced at 37 weeks) i would have been giving birth to prob nearly a 9lber... i was told about 5-6lb at 37 weeks and she was 6lb9oz! Also i was told i had really low waters but when my waters were broke i was told i had excessive water!!! take what they say with a pinch of salt sometimes hunny... the sonographer once told me that their estimated weights are really innacurate and u dont really know til baby comes out xxx

My LO measured big from his 21 week scan, at one point he was measuring 7-8 weeks ahead of dates (!!)
He was estimated to be 9lb2oz at 37+2. He was born at 42+4 at exactly 9lb. It wasnt MILES off but he was significantly smaller than expected according to all the scans I had!

I was told about 7lb 2 weeks before my due date and ended up with an 8lb baby one week late. I was sent for a growth scan because a consultant who did an examination at one of my mw appointments thought the baby only felt like a 5lber! Goes to show you never can tell.

Our last growth scan was at 39+4 and Emma was measured to be 8.5 lbs. She was born at 40+2 and weighed 8lbs 13oz so it was pretty accurate. I had growth scans every 2 weeks after the 20 wk scan and noticed that some sonographers are more accurate than others when they take the measurements. Congrats on your baby

DS1 was estimated at just over 5lbs at 33 weeks, arrived at 35 weeks weighing 5lb5oz
DS2 was estimated in the 4lbs range at 32 weeks, arrived a few days later weighing 5lb12.5oz (he'd have been massive!)
DD was estimated 7lb7oz at 35 (or 36) weeks, arrived at 37 weeks weight 6lb15oz

When I was pregnant with Nathan I had growth scans throughout because I had gestational diabetes.

They never guessed my weight at scan but baby always measured in the 95th centil and "normal" pregnancies its about the 50th centil so they were going to enduce me at due date but I went into labour naturally 2 days before. Anyways they kept telling me to expect over 10lb baby and he popped out 8lb 11.5oz hardly huge by any standards but not a tiny either!

At 34 weeks my lo was estimated at 7lb14 and when i had him at 36 weeks he was 8lb11 so i guess about right. He was measuring ahead the whole time. I was told after i had him that if i had gone full term he would of been 11lb something!!

I got told my son would be 8lb 6oz at 40 weeks from a scan around 32/33 weeks. He was born 9lb 3oz at 41+6 so I think it was pretty accurate for him.

I have heard of them being way off the mark though.
