It really is just terrifying isn't it. I can't imagine the pain families must go through losing a LO. It worries me every night but as others have said, if all the guidelines are followed there's not much else we can do.

Thankfully it is rare but even 1 case is 1 to many.

I know the thought terrifies me. LO sleeps best on his tummy and I know he would get a better nights sleep if we put him down on his tummy, but I know I wouldn't sleep!

Several people I know have said that they put their LOs down on the tummy and had no problems. I know the risk isn't terribly high, but the thought that if something did happen and he had been on his tummy I couldn't live with myself afterward, so we keep him on his back or his side (with a positioner).

I am so scared to even think about this. I feel so sad for the poor familys who have lost ther LO's. I have heard and read that SIDS goes way down at 12 months.

To the OP, re: SADS - I think that refers to Seasonal Affective Disorder...
There is also Sudden Adult Death Syndrome - where an adult dies of unexplained causes in their sleep. One of my best friends found her step mum dead in her bed one morning (she was 9 at the time) and the death was put down to SADS.
Thanks. I've never heard of that one...

This is my worst fear. I can't even imagine how I'd cope if something happened to my baby girl. I try to avoid thinking about it too much or I start getting super sad.

I still worry about it, there is a thing called SUDC (sudden unexplained death in children) which is kids over 12mo that die from unexplained causes

http://www.sudc.org/

Not to make everyone worry even more. But it's also very very rare. I've heard SIDS is at it's highest risk for babies around 2-4mo old and in 90% of the cases happens in babies under 6mo

Funny how people get told different things - I was told that the risk dropped significantly after 5 months. So, so frightening. Poor family x
