To be honest, I think our society is waaaay too over-protective about kids being naked. When I was little we used to run around naked in the garden all the time but now, it seems like lots of people would have a problem with that. I don't see why our children should be made to feel like their bodies are something they have to keep hidden away just because there are a very few weirdos out there. Obviously I wouldn't want my 12 year old daughter prancing naked in the street but my baby/toddler/young child will be allowed to play naked in front of family and friends!

That said, when I heard that my MIL had changed Leyla, I didn't like the idea one bit so I can see where you're coming from to a certain extent. Your MIL should respect your decision as a parent.
can i ask why you didn't like your MIL changing your little one? i'm as close to my MIL as i am my mam, so i wouldn't have an issue.. is it because you don't like your MIL, or is it because you don't want anyone changing your child?
Hehe yeah I don't get on with her at all. I don't mind anybody changing Leyla - I'm grateful if they do - but I always get that stomach wrenching feeling of "MY BABY!" when MIL has Leyla cos she constantly takes her off me and won't give her back!

I know what you mean. I teach 6/7 year olds and it does make me sad sometimes when I see the odd girl covering her 'boobs'!!! They should be innocent and totally unembarassed still to a certain extent and only just learning that their bodies are private ready for junior school. When I was at school boys and girls changed together until Year 6 but they seperate from Year 3 now. I wonder if this is the same in the States?

I changed my 2 boys anywhere and never bothered who was there but now i have a wee girl i tend to take her out the room if im at someone elses house to change her (at home her changing station is upstairs in her room). I dont know why but i feel her being a girl it shud be more private.

I refuse to change Emma in view of other people too. If it's just family like my parents or SIL, I don't mind. But anyone else, I take her somewhere else. I think it's a sick world out there and you never know who has wrong thoughts about children. I'm highly protective of my baby girl.

I'm with Cleckner. Amongst family and friends, fine. But with people I don't really know, I will change her in private.

Not because her body is anything to be ashamed of; far from it, I will do my best to teach her that her body is a miracle and should be cherished. I just don't like the idea of having her naked around people I don't know.

I'll change my Lo anywhere! at a party if it was a stinky one I'd probs go to a different room but thats jsut for consideration to other people!

At Joshua's christening I changed him on the sofa in a pub, because i didn't want to put him on a toilet floor! I honestly didn't care and i wasn't the only parent who did it!

I really find it worrying that you don't like your OH to change you daughter! Why oh earth not?
