I need some help about sleep!

My LO is 5 months old and is generally a really good baby. She goes down to bed really well at 7pm with no fuss at all. However she doesn't sleep through the night and there seems to be no pattern as to when she wakes. Last night she wanted food at 12:30, woke again and screamed the house down at 3 until 3:40 but nothing would calm her (I tried food, walking, singing, even leaving her) and then she slept until 8.
Having written it down it doesn't seem so bad, but how do I get her to stop the waking up? We've just started weaning her. This was the HV advice as she is so small (on the 0.4%) and LO has taken to it really well. She has a veg for lunch (about noon) and then some baby rice for tea (about 5pm). The rest of the time she is breast fed so I don't really know how much she is getting - do you think I should switch to Bottles?
THanks for any opinions or advice.
x

Hey Hun,

I don't think switching to bottled will help. Chloe is nearly 5 months and bottle fed and no where near sleeps through!! She also has no patern whatsoever!

Last night she went to bed at 7, woke at 2am for food then up at 5.45am. The night before she woke at 12.30am for food, up at 5am.the night before that she woke at 1.15am and wouldnt go back to sleep until 3am then still up at 5.30! So so random!

I have no advice to get them to sleep through......wish i did!! Just wanted you to know your not alone :-)

I just find it so hard, particularly when lots of my friends little ones of a similar age do sleep through, makes me feel like a failure!

Ah Hun, we are def not failures :-)

I know how you feel though. All my friends have lo's younger than Chloe and they all sleep through. I was getting really upset but it was just making me feel rubbish so I have just decided to roll with it and hope one day she will suprise me! I feel better that way and really chuffed when she does only wake the once.
I do worry sometimes as I go back to work soon but will just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

Don't worry about your friends, just think of all the extra cuddles we get :-)

You aren't a failure at all!!!

You need to remember that every baby is different - it is hard not to expect certain things if other babies are doing it - but it wont do you any good trying to compare your baby.

How is her routine in the day? Like how many breast feeds, how long etc, what about naps - does she nap 3 times and for how long each time?

Izzy was bottle fed, and they do say that bottled fed babies sleep better through the night - I don't actually believe that though!! My friends baby who is now 1 and still breast fed morning and bedtime sleeps 12 hours a night just like Izzy - so things work differently for all babies.

Thanks ladies

My LO routine during the day is ok, sometimes she will have 3 naps for anywhere between 20mins and 90 mins! Usually on the shorter side though. She also has 5/6 breast feeds too.

I think I'm just having a bad week, there has been a death in the family and everything just seems to be getting on top of me, normally I am fine and can cope. I may just put this down to a bad day!

Hey your not alone! My LO is 4 months and he exactly the same, has feed around 10/11, then wakes around 1am/2am, and then up at 5am as he awake! ALL his friends sleep through, and have done for weeks-they keep trying to give me well meaning advice but i just think its patronising.

Our babies clearly miss us soooooooooo much that they need to see us around the clock for cuddles )))))
