LO not going back to sleep after his night feed, taking upto 2 hours most nights! :(

I dont know where I am going wrong. LO used to wake in night at 1 and 4 when younger for night feeds and would always go straight back to sleep no problem.

No he feeds about 10:30/11 and then can wake anytime from 0230-0330 for next feed. At this feed though he is always wide awake and cant do anything to get him to settle. He bawls the house down when I put him down. He's dry, been winded with good burps, feels warm has night light on. I dont get it as he can self settle for his naps in the day, just seems to have gotten into this pattern at night in the early hours and its exhausting me and OH. His naps in day are usually pretty good too. Hour in morning, 1 and a half to 2 in afternoon and 45 to an hour in late aft before his bath, bottle and down to bed. He is awake between 1 and a half to 2 hours between most naps too. Get some protest sometimes at nap time but little kitten cries. At night its full on bawling his eyes out and as soon as go in room he stops. Have tried letting him cry but last no longer than 5 mins as it is so distressing! Last night from waking at 2am and feeding at 0230, took til gone 4 to get him settled!

Can anyone help me please, I am starting to dread the nights!

No help I'm afraid but just to let you know you're not alone!!! Lola wakes about 4am and doesn't go back to sleep at all until 7/8 o clock. I'm feel like a zombie most of the time!

Actually, have you tried co sleeping? I don't like doing it all the time but sometimes I will give it a go after the last night feed and it usually works. X

Hiya, thanks for replying, yes I have tried that and he still wont go to sleep. He'll cry if I put him on play mat for a kick about to use up some energy, I spoke to soon about the naps too. He woke at 12:45 today after an hour and a half and tried to put him back down at 14:45 and I am still trying now! Have resorted to swaddling now to see if that helps. he is yawning his head off. Not sure if he has a belly ache though to be honest as I have noticed a couple of days running at around this time he cries and goes for his dummy to suck as though really hungry. The other day I thought he needed a top up but he didnt touch the bottle, my mum said they mistake belly ache for hunger sometimes is that right? I dread night time now. Hope yours gets better soon x

I am glad I am not alone, it is affecting OH now for work too. Nothing works, co sleeping, nothing. All I can think to do is let him cry as I have tried every other option but it makes me feel ill hearing him!

have any of you tried those toys with womb sounds or heartbeats? i find swaddling and putting down after feeding/changing and a little cuddle but not yet asleep works well alot of the time, he still has times when he wont settle anyway and to be honest ive not found anything that works at those times but they are fewer and far between using the tips above

not that it helps when your so tired you feel drunk but it wont last forever

worst mistake i ever made was giving in and taking them downstairs where id put the tv on and lights, it really does help to keep lights v v low and make no eye contact or talk to them during night hours

x

Hey twinklestar. Yes I have the slumber bear with the womb sounds and waves crashing and classical music. I have just gone back to him after another few minutes of crying, resorted to swaddling again as was trying to get out of this now and put him in a sleeping bag and he has now taken a 2oz top up. Bit of shhh pat and he seems to have gone off but put him down before asleep. Fingers crossed. Night times are bad though. Never bad after the bath bottle and down, or at the 2300 feed, usually fusses but will settle, its always the middle night one, I keep lights off in room where he is and I feed, and have landing light chinking through and just shush him throughout feed and say 'night night's' but doesnt work. I pray it gets better soon x

It is odd but he seems to do this when he has gone off track from his 7,11,3,7, routine which he did last night by feeding at 230 and 630. He fed today at 10 and then at 1250 and not settled since, but weird how this 2 oz top up and sleep from now til 6 ish (fingers crossed) will take him through to his awake time for bath, massage and bottle around 7-7:30. Hmmm, we'll see hey x

Have you tried tanking him up? Lucy has a feed at 7 and then 9 and doesn't wake then as she isn't hungry through the night til about half 6/7ish. It's worth a go, Baby whisperer suggests doing it, she says feed them at 6, 8 and 10 and says to go in hen they cry but not eye contact just sssshhhhhing and gentle patting until they go off themselves. Also, does he have a dummy, we gave lucy one at about 6-7 weeks - mainly because it helped with her reflux - they're great for a short while, but make sure he doesn't become reliant on them!!
