sleep...and feeding.

i know all babies are different, but when do they start to sleep longer at night?

harriet had 5oz at 7.30pm, was still awake at 9.30pm in her cot (totally fine, just chatting to herself!) fell asleep then was awake wanting feeding at 11.30pm. had 3oz, fell asleep, then up again at 1.30am for 2oz. up at 4.30am and had 3oz then slept till half 7.

there have been a couple of nights when she has had her 7.30pm feed and not woke up to feed until 1.30am which is lovely!

any suggestions on how to either eliminate night feeds (obv i dont want to starve my daughter!!) or how to keep her awake to drink more so she isnt waking every 2 hours?!

I would ask my HV but my after care had been and still is totally shite!!

We tank Jacob up from 5-6ish and start to put him down, hes normally down by 8ish and then we feed him at 12, he'll then sleep through NORMALLY to about 630. sometimes he has a little whinge around 5ish, but its normally for a dummy or attention rather than milk. x

EDIT, Sorry forgot to say he normally takes no less than 100mls at each feeding which = bout 4ozs?? but the tank feed he'll normally have between 5-6 ozs!

She will start dropping her night feeds one by one. When Lo was 1 mnth he used to sleep for 6-7 hrs without waking up for a feed. Now he can go upto 13 hrs & he only takes 6-7 oz before bedtime. If she falls asleep while feeding, u can try playing with her ears, stroke her cheeks or move the bottle in & out.

Your LO sounds very normal to me!!

Unfortunately the other few response posts that you have had all indicate that LO will no doubt start sleeping for 8 hrs through the night etc - I really dont think that indicates correctly what the average month or 2 month old baby is like - and hopefully some more responses will prove that.

I was never expecting Anna to 'sleep through' - the best she has done so far is 12 midnight til about 5am.

The feed/sleep times that you mentioned were pretty much what Anna was like last night - except she never had a 4.30am feed

You are doing great!

I never said my LO sleeps through the night for 8 hours.. I said we rewake him, then he'll sleep from midnight to 630, sometimes waking up at 5 and having a whinge.

Well here is what my lo does..
He starts stocking himself up from around 6ish and usually falls asleep about 7:30ish then he wakes at either 11:30 for another feed depending on how well he filled himself up earlier. If he filled himself up earlier and we are REALLY lucky he will go untill 01:30-02:00 after that he want another feed around 4-4:30 and then sleeps till 6-7am.
I can't say how much he's eating as he's bf. Obviously this is not allways the case, we have had nights where he's up every hour or fully awake and ready to go at 4am (yawn) and twice he's done a 7 hour sleep from 8pm till 3am type thing (loved those two nights!)
As someone else said all baby's are different and also change all the time at such a young age.
I have a friend who's also bf and her lo started going from midnight till 7am from 6 weeks old (lucky girl).

My LO feeds every 3 hours in the day then will have a feed at about 8 and sleep untill 1/2am I make a 5oz bottle and he takes about 3o sometimes less and then goes straight back down untill 5/6 he's only 5 weeks old and I'm amazed at how well he does at night, I thought at first he should be feeding more in the night as he's so young but he's putting on weight just fine infact very well lol. So I just think every baby is diffrent xxx

last week went like this...feed and bed at 9pm...awake at 3.30am for a feed...then awake at 6.30am for feed and then staying awake.

last night however was...feed and bed at 9pm...awake at 1.30am for feed....then awake at 5.30am for a feed...then awake at 7am (no feed)

im not sure which one i prefer!!

i think it takes a while for LO to choose their night time routine - hopefully he will sleep from 9pm till 6.30am soon!
