Where does your LO take naps?

My 6 week old has been awake more in the last few weeks so has been napping rather than just sleeping all the time between feeds. I've been bringing his basket down so he can nap in the same room as me and he sometimes sleeps on his playmat or his bouncer.

In the last couple of days he's been fighting sleep. He's started doing a creepy sleepwalking type thing where he's dreaming but his eyes are open and he's moving about. This is apparently from over tiredness. He also wakes up screaming for a feed whereas he used to wake up gently and never felt the need to cry for food. I can't even get him latched on before he gets to ballistic levels! Think it must also be related to overtiredness.

I was thinking of putting him to nap upstairs and leaving the basket where it is at night. Would this have him confusing day and night? I also think I'd be running up and down stairs like a loonie if he keeps fighting sleep and starts shouting!

Where does your LO take their daytime naps?

I only started putting LO upstairs in his cot for naps about two weeks ago, when he was younger I always kept him downstairs with me for naps and he napped either in Moses basket, bouncy chair, or pram.

There is a growth spurt at 6 weeks too so that could be why he's a bit out of sorts and more hungry than usual.

I agree with Polaris, sounds like a growth spurt.

Joe took naps in his rocker when he was smaller and maybe once or twice a day in his crib. From about 2 months he always napped in his crib, he sleeps better there and even though we live in a small flat and so are still only about 20 feet away in the lounge, it's quieter for him x

I didn't put my daughter upstairs for a nap until she was about 12 weeks old. It's all down to personal choice really and what ever works best for you and your LO.

Would be brilliant if this was his 6 week spurt as the last one almost finished me, he was thrashing so much whilst feeding and I had thrush. Have been building my supply in preparation for the next so hopefully it's worked. He's actually been peacefully sleeping all day between feeds today so hopefully!

Yeah, going to keep him close at hand during the day until he gets himself into a regular nap routine. Thanks folks.

Evie naps in the living room on a v shaped cushion on the sofa. She outright refuses to settle in her cot during the day and our room is on the same level as the living room (we live in a flat) She sleeps pretty well during the day and she also knows that when it's dark, and we go into our room that it's bed time and time for her long sleep and she goes down in her cot without a murmur For us, it's helped her separate day from night and it also means that because she doesnt associate her cot for day time naps, she'll pretty much sleep anywhere
This doesnt work for everyone, and I appreciate that most people would prefer their babies to sleep in one place for all naps, but we visit OH's parents on a regular basis on the other side of London and we spend pretty much most of the day and the evening there so if Evie wanted to sleep and would only sleep in her cot, getting her to sleep would be impossible, then the day would be a nightmare! This way she can sleep on their sofa or in her stroller. As I say, it works for us

i've put my LO for naps upstairs in the moses basket where she sleeps at night since the she was born (with the monitor on). I make sure the curtains are open so its just as light as being downstairs and she knows its a daytime nap. I just put a cellular blanket on her in the day but she has a sleeping bag at night whcih i think helps differentiate between day and night sleeps.

I think its really up to you and how you feel comfotable.

I do think that theres that time when my LO is falling asleep where she will wake up so i have to be careful around her. so being upstairs its a bit less hustle and bustle so i think she gets into that deeper sleep more easily upstairs. I still hoover and go about my day to day bits and bobs but wait for 5-10 mins after i've put her down

hope thats useful

I tried to put my LO upstairs to nap in his coy (next to my bed) with the intercom on but he wouldn't have any of it so he know naps on the sofa or in his chair he won't go on s Moses basket or carry cot anymore. He sleeps fine at night in his cot tho. Xx
