my placenta was frozen right after birth as i wasnt in a good place emotionally do 'deal' with it. i did mine 10months (ish) after the birth. i spoke to the only encapsulation speciaist in the country and she advised me that it would be fine to encpasulate as long as it hadnt been defrosted at all. it is really best to used a fresh placenta right after birth for the best hormonal benifits.

Mixed reactions, most people go omg errr then i explain myself and share my prints that i made before encapsulating then the reaction turns from err too owww thats actually a really beautiful thing to do.

i cut it up, dried it, ground it and put it in capsules (pill form). a bit different than cooking it, but i consumed it. why? most all other mammals do. there is argument that other animals consume it because they NEED that nourishment after childbirth but humans don't NEED it because we are already well nourished. i think that's ridiculous because nothing we could nourish ourselves with can *replace* the same things in the placenta.
it's known to help lactation, postpartum depression (it REALLY helps with energy and depression, i am prone to depression and i noticed a huge difference in my moods when i ate the pills), it's full of amazing proteins and vitamins, oh and did i mention it helps postpartum depression? hehe.
some cultures burry their placentas, some plant them with a tree, some eat them, some throw them away. i think we are conditioned to think it "gross" because it came from us and because it is part of the unknown. to each his own of course, but good for you, MilkMachine!
the only reason I dried it and ate it in capsules was because I wanted it to last longer. maybe next time i'll cook it.
:-D ill share my photos when i have caught up with replies!

did any of your other family members "try" it too ?
Both, i did try it once it was steamed but wasnt so keen on the taste although the texture wasnt as meaty as i expected. i did plan on eating (conventional sence) half and encapsulating the rest but i wasnt very keen

So, when it was on the plate in front of you, did you think "mmmmmmm, delicious"?

What did you eat it with, chips? Peas? Bit of gravy?

On a scale of 1-10 how tasty would you say it was?

Did you share it with anyone?
it tastes how liver smells not so great lol, a friend of mine ate hers minced up in a cottage pie though with her partner.

i struggled with how bloody it was at first i took about half an hour talking to myself convincing myself that i did actually want to do it and it turned out to be an important spiritual journey for me.

The hospital gave it to me in a biohazard placenta bag which i put in a tupperwear box in the bottom of a chest freazer. it was the midwifes idea although she was a private midwife and i imagine the normal hospital staff wouldnt have been so easy....with my first birth they thought i was a bit strange asking for it....
