ok so ill admit reading this im gaggin like a good one but then i took a deep breath and looked at the pics and it just doesnt look that bad to be honest actually it just looked like any organ when you think about it its probably a whole load more normal than eating some animals tongue or something having said that its still not for me but i can imagine it being a very spiritual emotional thing to do...thank you for sharing this with us i have learned a lot not least what a placenta actually looks like xx

I always found the idea a little bit nasty but i am very funny with blood and gore etc. But after reading your posts and seeing the pics i look at in a different light.

The prints you did are lovely and to look at your placenta and think it was what made your baby thrive really is beautiful and i now see past the blood and see it as a thing of beauty as really they are as they are what make our babies survive.

I was also quite surprised how it does just look like a steak when cooked lol

did you just press them onto paper?

pretty much! i cleaned some of the blood off with kitchen paper and just mad blood prints by pressing paper on to it. then when the blood ran out so to speak i used water based paint

im not really sure, i just felt an emotional need to DO something. going through the proccess was healing. it smells of labour, hospital, blood.......the whole thing also took an entire day. most of it i was left to reflect on my birth and face up to how much being in hospital really messed with my head. it enabled me time and a proccess to deal with it all.

This is really interesting, I'm slightly temped if i am ever lucky enough to have another child.
I asked to look at my placenta after Holly was born and put a glove on a had a poke around with it (more of a curiousity than anything) But im glad i saw it and i didnt like the thought of it being thrown away. I did want to donate it but i could cos i retained a bit so the membranes weren't 'whole'.

i havent really thought about it to be honest, proberly. i might just keep one forever lol

I'm planning on taking mine home and planting a tree or something on it. That's certainly the one part of my birth plan I'm absolutely inflexible on. I want to come home with #1 a baby, #2 the placenta.
have you posted about that on here before? i have read something like that before lol!!

No questions, I just think it's amazing. I loved the pictures. Never seen a placenta before and my labour was so mental I didn't get the chance, so thankyou for sharing
