Infant Gaviscon - will double dose cause constipation

Hi

lo has been on gaviscon for a while and at first she seemed to struggle as her poo got firmer, however she is now fine. She is now over 10lb and the instructions say to give 2 doses, will this cause her to struggle again because of the higher dose or should things stay as they are? thanks x

for babies over a certain weight your instructed to use both sachets (dual sachets) and i think its around the 10lb mark when they go over to 2 sachets. Check with your gp just incase, they usually prescribe it with details on the front on how to give all depending on babys weight so let them know how much baby weighs now but it wont cause them constipation on dual sachets.
x

I think you can only use a double dose when you are making over a certain amount - 200ml ish (can't remember exactly!)

Good question though, Lola is soon to hit the 10lb mark so I might ask about this. Maybe a double dose would actually work!!

yeah suzannes right, she has to be over 10lb but the bottle has to be about 7 or 8 oz (check the packet) - so if shes fine on one i would stick to it hun - I left Finley on one cos it worked for us x

Ignore the amount of milk you need to put it in - i asked my paed about that and he said its fine in less (weve been using double in bottles 4 - 5 oz). He said when u think about it when its given to breastfeed babies on a spoon its far far less diluted so the actual amount of mls it is in doesnt matter. I found gaviscon made my daughter more regular rather than constipated.

We have kept Sid on 1 sachet as he hasn't got any worse. If he had got worse though the hv suggested putting the 2 sachets in the right amount of water, then mixing it and pouring what you dont need away and then adding the milk. This is what i will be doing if his symptoms get worse again x

We were told to use 1 sachet in no less than 3 1/2 to 4oz & only use 2 sachets if around 7/8 oz. So personally i would stick to that but as said above. Why add more if you dont need to?

Gaviscon as it is never worked for jax it was awful stuff & made him choke but now sma staydown? magical stuff!!
