From 3rd tri with a question :)

Just a quick question for those who had sweeps....
I will be 41weeks on Monday n am booked in to have my first sweep. Just wondering how effective they are?? How many of u went into labour n how long it took etc..?
I have not had an internal in weeks so don't know if I'm effaced etc although I lost heaps of bloody show on Tuesday n have been losing truc loads of plug since ( like 6 golf balls worth) so my cervix has got to be Doing something right? N last night I had horrible contractions n went to hospital n was told I was in labour n to come back at 3min apart but woke up this morning n nothing

so I'm hoping it did something

My midwife tried to do a sweep at 40+6 but said she couldn't properly reach my cervix - I went into labour the next day. No idea if she managed to do enough to start things!

I went into labour 4 days after but stayed at contrctions happening 3mins for 24hours lol

I had 2 but I was already in early labour. After the first I lost my plug and aftter the second I had a bloody show then 3 hours later he was here! Not sure if it was anything to do with the sweeps tho. Good luck x

I was 1-2cm dilated but not at all effaced due to his position (even though I read you couldn't dilate until you're effaced!) at 41w and had a long vigorous sweep at 11am, went into labour at midnight but had signs since 3pm and gave birth at 1.50pm the next day.

I had two and they didn't work. I went into labour the day before my induction which was what I was praying for

(41 weeks and 2 days)

I had 2 and they did absolutely nothing (one at 40+4 and another at 41+3), and when I started in very early labour they did another to try and get things going a bit. But I was already in labour then so don't know how effective that one was

I was due to be induced the day she was born so I just beat it!

it sounds to me like you are on your way already if you have had a show and the plug is coming out....i didnt have any signs at all and at 39 weeks my doc did a sweep and again at 41 and nothing either time. i was 2 cm dilated and a bit effaced and nothing at all happened. i got a tiny bit of a show each time....plus it was not a great procedure to have done i got very faint and it felt aweful....sorry! I ended up being induced once i was 11 days overdue.....so no labour for me until we made it happen with an IV (even cervidil didnt work for me).
