Anyone made an offical complaint after a traumatic birth?

To cut a long story short, my birth experience was marred in a number of ways by the poor decisions of one doctor. It's also left me with some ongoing physical issues needing further investigation and possibly treatment. I believe the same doctor is also responsible for lifelong problems in at least one other patient, possibly more.

Does anyone have experience of making an official complaint? Was it difficult, and do you have to do anything to push it through? I know the doctor in question (who was not British) has already left the country, so do you think it might actually have any effect?

ooooh dunno.. just wanted to say goodluck if you do. These things arent easy but they have to take each complaint seriously. Is there an ombudsman that cover the medical sector?
Wonder why the doc has left the country already? maybe hes already been complained about?

I have no experience, but I just wanted to say that I feel that if you think you were mistreated in anyway while under medical care it is important that you make a complaint.

It doesn't matter if the doctor has left the country - there would have been more than one person involved in your care whilst in the hospital and they should have been responsible for any mistreatment too. I think that highlighting this issues may ensure that someone else does not have to go through what you did.

I am really sorry that your birth was so traumatic x x

my care was really bad, all the staff were lovely but they were just short staffed and mistakes that could have been very serious were made. For me it all turned out ok and i didnt complain as it was just due to it being busy and we all know the nhs has that problem but if it was the mistake of a specific doctor i may have taken it further. I think as well as complaining you should contact the hospital and they can go through the care you had with you (i may be wrong but i think all uk hospitals offer this service) to help you get over it.

my care was awful and 2 out of 3 staff were horrible. Being in the hospital 14 days was hell... i did write out a list of things which would make ur hair curl, but didnt do anything about it, which was silly as these sort of things will continue to go on. go for it, but u do have to do it within 3 months. contact the hospital and ask them on there complaint procedure

Im starting to put together a complaint letter just now. Im also going to read over all my notes with a mw and also get a copy before i send my letter so that i have everything right and dont forget anything. My letter is complaining about quite a few things, it may be quite long. Im interested to know the answer too, altho mine isnt aimed at one doctor.

I don't have any expeirence but I'd make a complaint...
Even if the doctor has left the country, others can still learn from his mistakes and so it could help to prevent others being mistreated the way you have. x

I don't like people sueing the NHS but complaining is necessary to fix problems.
