Baby gets tired so quickly at 5months - anyone else?

Since discovering the joys of my baby taking daytime naps, and seeing how much happier he (and I!) are after he's had an hour or so, my OH and I have been quite vigilant in making sure he gets enough daytime sleep. But it seems to be getting to the point where he sleeps more than wakes during the day - like he'll be awake just over an hour and then start to show sleepy signs. He'll then protest like hell when we try to put him down in his cot, but after 5mins he'll drop off and then have anything from half an hour to two hours. Which is all great, cos like I say he wakes up really cheerful, but I was just wondering whether a five-month old should be having quite so much daytime sleep as this (for example, could it be impacting on his nighttime sleep?). The thing is, if we don't let him have sleep as required, he gets super ridiculously miserable, so stopping the naps isn't really an option. I guess if he's happy it doesn't matter, but I was just wondering whether other 5-month-olds have a desire for sleep so soon after previously waking up.

You know I was wondering the same thing. My LO takes quite a few naps during the day. They are only about 30 minutes a piece. After an hour to an hour an a half he is sleepy again and wants a nap. He fights it for a few minutes when I lay him down, but will finally drop off. I figured the older they got the more awake time they would have.

I was having real trouble getting Ruby to nap at 5 months. She would only nap for 30 minutes at a time, which I guess is the sleep equivalent of a snack instead of a proper meal! So yes, she did get tired again quite soon after a nap.

My LO is awake for a maximum of 2 hours. she used to be an appalling napper when she was younger so maybe she is making up for it now

My LO is having a tired week this week and is sleeping loads. Last week she refused to sleep at night or in the day. She was a little demon last week. Had her weighed today and put on 11oz -so i'm guessing growth spurt?

She naps from either 4 or 5 30mins a day to two 2-3 hour naps. She isn't in a set routine. I tried but it was making both of us miserable. if she wakes up and isn't crying I get her up. Any whinging and I try to put her down again.

This week lots more sleep and a little angel!

hi hun, my little girl has always loved her sleep up until just recently when she started waking in the night she was having more nap time than awake time she used to wake at 7.30am and go back to bed by 8.30/9am - she'd then have a couple of hours, wake for a couple maximum then back to bed again etc etc - she would then go to bed at 6.30/7pm latest and sleep through until I woke her for a dream feed and then sleep through till 7.30am

I think some babies are just sleepier than others so I wouldnt worry to much, the last couple of weeks I've changed Izzies nap pattern to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon - she then goes to bed at 7pm and is such a happy little thing when she has had these naps

Hi COlsy
Well Cailean will be 5 months old next week and has (until recently!!) been napping a total of 3 hours beteen 7am and 7pm. However last few days have struggled to get him to have more than 1.5 or 2 hours. Like today he had 45 minutes beteen 915 and 1000 (915 being just more than 2 hours since he got up for the day) and then 1215 and 1300. He's not shown anymore sleepy signs since?!?! I've just put him down in the hope he'll have at least 30 minutes now otherwise I have a grumpy nightmare on my hands until I can run the bath at 1815!!!! Even if he's not tired he'll get grumpy from boredom I'm sure of it!! I wish I had the magic answer!

isn't it funny we would all love lots of naps in the day and sleep all night but our LOs all want to do the opposite!!
