my daughter is now 20 weeks and we've been giving her rice and pots of foods for a week and she is loving it. she refused point blank to take any milk so tried her with rice and this worked so needless to say, thats been the way since. babies really are the boss hahaha x

We started at 5 months 1 week under doctors orders due to non-existent weight gain.

Personally I would say to wait to wean until 6 months unless you're advised otherwise by your doctor There are a few signs that are interpreted as a need for weaning which can be explained through other ways eg

- showing interest in food - babies are interested in everything we do
- waking during the night after previously having slept - there's a big growth spurt at 4 months which might cause waking but doesn't mean LO needs solids. Giving solids for this reason more often than not doesn't help with sleeping
- chewing everything that moves (or doesn't) - it's just a phase, all babies will chew anything they can get their hands on, hungry or not!

The current UK goverment advice is that when your baby can pick up a piece of banana, chew it and eat it, they're ready to be weaned. That's what we went with!

Has that one actually come in properly now? I think it's a great one

Confession time lol - We started Earl on 1 meal a day at 18 weeks. He's loving it, still taking 40+oz of milk a day but a lot calmer in an evening instead of trying to eat my arm. He can do the 'banana trick' which is what convinced me it wa the right time. He sits well, can hold it, chew on it and swallow it!! At 18 weeks!! Eeeek I think I've got my hands full. He also swipes anthing and everthing off your plate, including trying to grab cups of tea If he gets hold, it will be eaten

I'm sticking to really basic 1 meal of root veggies and rice until he's a bit older then we'll start a more BLW inspired kind of approach.

Aimee Lou thats what I noticed with Jacob will grab anything (or try to) what I'm eating, and I've noticed my little boy was born on the same day as yours. We started the rice a bit earlier but now hes on vegetables/fruit for tea and porridge or rice for breakfast with 7-8oz bottles too. xx

My last one was 7.5 months when he started eating, I offered him food before this but he wasnt interested. Will start Theo BLW 6 months or after depending on when he is ready, if hes not showing firm signs at 6 months I will just wait til he is.

Noah grabs any food he can now, he has a little to taste but will start full weaning at 6 months. He took a piece of carrot and started munching on it on Sunday. He has rice/fruit cereal once a day, wouldn't say it was a full portion though iykwim.

5 months, we started with finger foods - roast veg, banana - then moved on to slightly lumpy veg or fruit purees (at lunchtime), then we began baby rice for brekkie, then added dinner...
