Co sleeping making us more tired!

zzzzzzzzzzz
hmmm .... i thought it would help us
k has always put up a fight when going back in his crib after night feeds (but fine at the beginning of the night ) so i thought co sleeping after he wakes up might spare us that and help us both get more sleep ...
it did for a while, but the last few nights have been worse than ever! awake every hour, wriggling and fussing, then i cant get comfy because of him wriggling ... think he might be better in his own space as im wriggling as well as my limbs keep going dead and that disturbs him ... though i love cuddling up to him at night and i think he has more feeds during the night, just because its there and easily accessible, which wakes us both up more as well ...
is it back to the crib-battles? there must be an easier way....
?

Have you thought of a side-bed? It's a bed (or crib) open on one side. You place it next to your own bed so you both have your space but can cuddle if needed!

I could have written that

Toby goes to sleep in his co-sleeper (crib that attaches to the side of our bed) for the first part of the night (roughly 7pm to midnight give or take an hour or so either side) but then sleeps with us for the rest of the night, and up to now it has meant i can just doze off after getting him latched on and we all get some sleep...BUT the bigger he gets the more space he takes up and it is getting difficult to get comfy, when i wake up i find i have creaky hips and knees like an old old lady, from lying in one position too long

Also he does that long stretch between feeds during the evening (at least four hours normally six) but then the 2nd half of the night he feeds a lot more frequently, and i wonder if having my boobs right there next to him is like providing him with a nocturnal buffet table for him to snack on all night long?

I'm not sure whether we're going to do anything about it just yet as we do love co-sleeping, but i can see us getting to a stage soon where we try to scoop him out after the night feeds and pop him in his side-car and see if he'll settle in there. That way he will still be right next to us but we all have a bit more room

OMG!!!! this is almost written by me. She doesn't put up a fight though, but she wakes up A LOT as she knows she's in her cot although the swaddling REALLY helps.

When I sleep with her she can wake up EVERY half hour to feed towards teh morning! then starts headbutting my boobs because they're running on empty and I have to switch her over again and again and again.

If I move, go to the loo or try and get comfy she wakes up and it's a nightmare.

I've gone back to putting her in the side cot though and she seems better, but last night she wasn't happy in the cot again and looking at her I've started to wonder if it's stomach gas as she wriggles around and grumbles so much.

I found getting a knitted shawl and stuffing it around her when she sleeps helps quite a lot. I think it helps her feel snug and it's safe as she's securely swaddled so can't get tangled in it. Maybe adding a few rolled blankets as people have suggested or somethign to make the cot cosier may help?

tbh I prefer frequent night waking as it helps my milk supply and Im sure is the key to his weight gain. However we both sleep well and we dont wake one another, well, until he starts grunting at me for food!
If its causing you problems Id probably go with a bedside cot, will give more room. Possibly try swaddling and/or one of those snuggle nest thingies. Hopefully if you can manage a cribside cot you should get the best of both worlds in that you can cuddle and feed easily as hes always within an arms reach but he isnt right in your space.

I'm afraid I can't help much as we never really co-slept. But when we did we never got proper sleep.

My cousin used to co-sleep with her little boy and they used to have a cot that attached to the side of the bed. As people have mentioned maybe try this xx
