Well when we brought my baby home from the hospital the first month was mostly eating pooping and sleeping and cuddle times inbetween when she was alert. We noticed right off the bat she was really intrested in the TV lol, we read to her play with her interact with her but that all we could really do at that stage.

I'm excited when she hits the sitting up and crawling and playing stage lol, this mama can't wait to chase her all around the house.

Ive just bought logan this today...

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...3EPLAY+MAT.htm

He loves it.. is obsessed with the blue fish lol.

I tend to play with him for a few hours each day, we read stories and sing rhymes and do actions ect and hes got a little toy he likes when i rattle it and he stares at it.

We have a plain playmat thats got toys hanging down ect but he doesnt like that one! The one we bought today makes noise and has lights and he loves noise!!

When Joe was that age, we mainly read & sung to him, he had a little time on his playmat on his back and in his rocker, walked round the flat with him explaining where we were, that sort of thing.
He mainly slept and as he got older, he was awake more and spent more time taking things in. Sometimes I think he might be bored, but he seems content just sitting there staring at things and listening to me chatter away!

Theo has just started taking firm interest in hanging objects and lights, he loves the little light and hanging fish bit on the fisher price aquarium swing and he has a kick and play bouncer too and he finds the lights on that fascinating (we just turn it on for him, hes not big enough to figure the kicking action yet obviously) he only spends a few minutes in each thing just when I am expressing or similar but hes certainly getting interested.
He isnt too bothered about his playmat but I sit on the floor with him on it showing him the hanging toys and having a chat with him (usually results in him falling asleep so Im actually talking to myself....) we spend time with him on my chest on his tummy, hes just started smiling so Im spending all my time whilst hes awake watching him like a hawk for a smile, it melting my heart then I almost cry because hes growing up so fast!
I actually seem to spend most of his waking time chatting to him and pulling faces, plus our massage time/nappy free time which we both enjoy (til he tries to pee off the backed mat...the downside to boys is they can send the pee a fair distance in the air....!!)
Hoping to start his swim lessons in the next 4-6 weeks ish which will also be LOTS of fun.

Your baby wont care how bad of singer you are! Megan started with her playmat at 4 weeks - actually batted at the toy the first time we put her there! She would only be there for 5 min a day - but she seemed to love it. Babies like to see faces - and yours esp. so talk and sing to her and make silly faces at her (nice ones!) Soon after Megan started really loving her mobile and the animals on her bouncer (didnt like her bouncer til after she was a month old). You can walk around the house and talk about everything. I found a great time to sing and talk is during diaper time - she is more interested in mommy at that time vs. looking around at everything else.
