any one else with anxiety/panic disorder?

hi!

i was diagnosed with panic disorder a year before i fell pregnant. i was able to cope with my panic as i could jus go to bed or lay down until i calmed down obviously i cant do that now! my panic is not bad but the days i do get anxious/panicky is quite a struggle (my panic attacks have slowed right down to bout 2 a month) as i have my 3 month old. so basically was wondering if u have any coping techniques?? thanks in advance! xx

I have anxiety disorder (GAD).

To be honest I don't have any coping techniques. Sorry

I used to take anti-depressants which didn't help at all. I now take beta-blockers which calm down some of my symptoms like fast heart rate and palpitations. X

Hey, yeah, I've had it, still do to some degree to be honest! I had it from being 11 (I'm 28 now) I missed the first year and last year of highschool, as I simply could not leave the house. I then went on to recover, get a job, did my NVQ's then gain a degree in mental health nursing (bit of a personal mission, lol).
I haven't had too many problems over the past few years, although towards the end of my degree I did get very stressed and have a few panic attacks, I feel this may have been to the environment I was in though, was in the medical wing of a prison, so felt a bit penned in, it's nice to know you can leave when you want, and it's such a rigmarole to get out of a prison!! I get panic attacks when I'm on planes too, the thing of being penned in again, when they shut those doors. But I'm off to Florida later this year, I'm just hoping that my baby will help me, I don't want him to pick up on fear etc.
As for coping, I cover it up very well, my DH had no idea till I told him. I find deep breathing and distraction techniques work well.
If you want professional help cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) works very well for anxiety. It's all about finding your own personal strategies that work for you.
Take care, and I'm always about to PM....I got through it!

I have for about 15 years. Meds help me. The only time I didn't take them was when I was pregnant. Then I got really anxious after I had Rocco and went back on.

i used to get a few i used to just keep telling myself that i was fine and nothings going to happen and that helped a lot. when you get an attack, just repeat this to yourself and try and carrying on with what you are doing. hope you feel better soon xx

Have you been refered to anyone? Seeing a CPN to work out coping strategies might be a good idea.

I've suffered with various forms of anxiety for many years, but the right medication has made an amazing difference.

I used to and still do sometimes get GAD (general anxiety disorder) and panick attacks, not as bad now but still comes and go's.

Its awfull, but when you read up on it and know what its all about it helps loads.

That's what helped me before too. I do think meds for some people help. It does me, but primarily to "believe" there is nothing to be afraid of is the key because it's 110% true.

Nothing bad will happen! I know it may feel like it, but it will not nor ever will. Nothing you fear will happen... hope that helps and I second the post above.

Nothing is going to happen that is bad.
