Nappy changing

I'm just wondering how u change ur babies dirty nappies?

So far, my Lo had poo stain twice since he was born & only on his vest & it was very little.

When LO poops (always massive ones) I wait 10 mins before changing to make sure that the nappy absorbed the water, then I free his legs, take him to the bathroom, bend him on my arm, take off his nappy while carrying him, & directly to the sink for a good wash.

I tried using wipes when he was tiny but didnt work as it was always messy.

Just wondering how u can manage with wipes esp when they'r growing up & move & struggle more when changing.

For poopy nappies I wipe her with wet wipes as best I can, then I clean her with mini muslin cloths or a cotton pad and Baby Lotion.

Sometimes she does wriggle a lot and it takes a little longer...but I'd rather take a few mins more and get her bum clean, but its a case of telling them not to! They soon learn!

I don't like the idea of washing her bum in the sink, we only have a bathroom and kitchen sink - non of which I want poop anywhere near! I can just imagine washing her butt in the sink, changing her bum...then the door bell goes so I go down...forget to wash the sink out..and well gross lol

ahhh hehehehe well thats OK then!!!!!

I am not entirely sure you will be able to do this for much longer...I really do not think I could carry Izzy while taking off a nappy and wiping her bum...I'd rather put up with her worst wriggly day than try that!

I just lay her on a changing mat/changing table if out and about. To clean I use baby wipes and clean her well, then if she's got anything left I use a cotton wool pad with water but tbh, wipes do it well enough 95% of the time. There's been the odd occasion when Ive stripped her and had to put her in the bath but that is only nappy explosions/leaks. Once she's done I put sudocreme on.

If you ask me (and not in an offensive way) you seem to be making a lot of work for yourself and it will be difficult when out to put him in a sink.

I always carry a spare set of clothes, Aimee had a super explosion once in mothercare - I had to strip her and clean her in mothercare...I managed it with wipes - took a while but at least I had clean clothes for her. I bathed her once I got home.

Does that help at all?

I sit on the floor with Dylan laying on the changing mat in front of me. I have a nappy open ready, and the wipes with a couple pulled out. I also have a nappy bag open and within reach.

I undo the nappy, and wipe down with the front of it to remove the worst of the poo. Then I tuck the front of the nappy under his bum so poo doesn't get on the mat, and wipe as needed. I can get most poos sorted with 2 wipes, 3 if it's a big one. With the first wipe you remove as much of it as you can, making sure you check underneath his bits. Fold it each time it gets pooey. Then with the last wipe start by going over the cleaner bits and finish with a final wipe of the bum.

I put the used wipes straight into the nappy bag, and remove the nappy as soon as there is no risk of poo going everywhere - then that goes in the bag too. To be honest, if you're using a changing mat it's not the end of the world.

If you train them before they are too mobile they should learn to stay put fairly well, although you might need to learn to keep hold of a leg sometimes! My sister changes her 2 on her cream carpet with no mat - rather her than me!
