Crusty Eye...

Since about a week old, James had has problems with his eyes and discharge. First it was the right eye, then that cleared up and now it is the left eye.
Time and time again we have been told that it is just a clogged tear duct, no sign of an infection, yet he does have a gel stuff that I put in his eye 3 times a day and it doesn't ever get better.
Somedays we just have a little bit of discharge, while other it just seems to flow.
He has his 4 month old check up on the 16th of March.

Do you guy have any idea what it could be??

My LO is 5mnths old and has had the same problem in is right eye only since about 1wk old!

Just like you i've been told it is a blocked tear duct and it will get better between 6mnths to a yr! They said to speed things up try rubbing the side of his nose to help fuse the tear duct together!!

Been doing this on every feed and gave up on the drops after 3wks as no joy!! I think my LO gets more pissed off when we try sort it out so besides from and eye bath every morn and cleaning it after every nap time I just leave it!!

Don't know if this is helpful but at least you know you're not going throughh it on your own and it is a pain in the arse!!! (or eye!!)

We're going through the same stress with Murphy's right eye. I took him to the dr in Dec and was given drops, they didn't work. He went back again and was given an antibiotic cream and his eye was swabbed. The dr called when the results came in and said that it was a form of conjunctivitis and the cream wouldn't work. Apparently we have to make an appointment to go back and get the first drops (that didn't work!!!!!) again

It is def a pain as he hates it when we clean it out.

The gel helps in the way that if it gets super bad and his eye won't open after sleeping it'll sofen the crusty to make it easier to wipe out.

I might try rubbing that spot to see if it helps.

Poor Lo's. It is nice to know though that James is not the only one with this problem. Sucks that'll take so long to correct itself.

Finn had a clogged duct for ages, it does clear eventually, we just wiped it regularly using normasal/ saline from the pharmacy. The eye wasnt pink like it is with conjunctivitis.
