Well, Bella had a very unrestful sleep and i didnt sleep a wink.

Called the doctors when they opened as her temp went back up and talked to a doctor who has given me an appointment for 2.00pm - though i thought she would be seen quicker than that and given priority! :-/

I've attemtped to give her calpol, pretty much wasted half a bottle trying to get her to take it, but it ended up just down her front instead!

temp is 38 on the dot at the moment, so have got her just in her vest and trying to keep the place cool.

She has had a couple of feeds, though very small, and she's been sick a couple of times as well (soooo unlike her!)

I don't think it's reflux as she has never suffered with it before and don't think it would crop up now, would it??

Don't think it's teething either, but then i'm only saying that because my sister said it's not teething and i just assume she knows what she's talking about as she has two boys and is a manager of a nursery. So teething is a possibility but i cant feel or see any teeth coming through and she hasn't had any diarrhoea or red cheeks so am not sure.

Maybe stomach bug? Whatever it is it seems to be really bothering her, she's such a good baby, she sleeps, she wakes, she feeds, she plays, she sleeps etc only time she winges a bit is if she's sleepy, but to wake up screaming like she's in pain is so unheard of for her, i can't help but worry :-/

Thanks for everyones help though, and opinions and advice, it's muchly appreciated! I think things like this are a lot harder when you dont have a partner around to discuss it with and say 'you think she should go to the hospital? Ok, we'll do it.' or 'Shall we just see how she is, does she seem alright to you?' etc. It's hard just going off my own opinion with no one to bounce ideas off!! Lol.

So thanks everyone, i will let you know what the doctor says!! xx

Oh poor Bella, I hope she is feeling better soon. I think you are right about needing someone to bounce things off - when OH is not around sometimes I can feel almost paralyzed because I'm afraid I'll make the wrong decision (not saying you are like that because you're clearly not, but I do understand that it is much harder when you're bearing the full responsibility).

Let us know how you get on with the doctor.

Re: Calpol - might be easier to give it with a syringe, I got a handful from the local chemist for free or I'm sure your doctor's surgery might have some they could give you.

Also if her temperature stays high, you could try sponging her with luke warm water to bring it down.

I do use a syringe :-/ i put it in the back of her mouth down the side so it slides down her throat, but it just doesn't, no matter how i do it or which syringe to use (i have a couple, have also tried using spoons and the syringe from the infacol bottle) she just spits it back out, or chokes on it, or clamps her mouth shut!

She won't take a bottle so can't get her to take any water, and again, like the syringe, she managed to just spit it back out at me :-/

Just come back from the doctors (Was there for over an hour!)

Bella has swollen glands and a viral infection.

Her swollen glands are causing her pain when she's feeding which is why she is refusing the breast, and her general unwellness is causing the irratability and the sick when she does get fed.

But Doc checked her over and says she's not dehydrated (thank goodness!) she's just quite a poorly baby
He said she needs lots of sleep to try and fight the infection and needs to be fed little and often to stop her from becoming dehydrated and to stop too much pain from increased sucking.

Though god knows how shes supposed to get lots of sleep if i need to keep feeding her little and often!

So Bella will be ok, though apprently i might have a few rough nights ahead of me :-/ but anything as long as she's ok!

Thanks for everyones help xx

I'm so glad you got to the bottom of this and Bella is going to be ok.

With the calpol, have you tried putting the syringe in her cheek? We've had to give Abby a number of things with the syringe and the only way we've found to do it without spilling most of it is in her cheek, a wee bit at a time.

NHS24 was in sued in Scotland. They are the same now - so overly cautious that any chance there is a problem they'll have you at the out of hours docs. Who are so overly cautious they'll send you to the hospital. 5 hours it took us to get a firm "yes she's ok" from them

*update*

Bella's temp has gone up to 38.8 and she's just vomited all over the sofa. Not the little bits of lumpy sick she's done all day and night, but like the contents on her stomach just went everywhere.

Is she getting worse? Can a mere viral infection do this to her?? :-/
