I'm going to snuggle up next to her and try and get some sleep, though am not feeling all that tired really.

Thanks for your replys girls, it's good to know i have a site like this i can come onto a stupid oclock in the morning and get replys so fast when i need help!! Lol.

I know its gone back down now but if i was in your position i would still take her up to the hospital or call a doc out, mainly because she isnt herself at all and because her temp raised, plus her not feeding the way she normally would.

This is just what i would do, i would be like yourself tho worried to go to sleep etc and i would prob be constantly checking her temp.

I hope she is ok hun, please keep us posted.
Well, that can't be true as over 38 is only just a temp and most issues to do with raised temperature are manageable at home and nothing at all... if baby's temp is touching/nearing 40 and wont go down with a paracetamol suspension THEN seek medical advice (NHS direct and the like). If you go to hospital with a temp of 38 then you'll get a few funny looks, tbh.

Just saying, it's not necessary at all at that point and far from an emergency.
I'm just saying what a GP told me at the walk in centre when i took Mya there when she was 3 weeks old.

Wasnt saying the op had to do this just sharing something that was adviced to me by a health care professional.
Hmh, it just sounds wildly over cautious. Often a temp is a good thing, as it means baby is fighting a little something and it is usually done fairly quickly and within the comfort of their home. If you try to stop it, by intervening with medicine and the like then you affect their body's ability to fight whatever it is that they're fighting. So, as a general rule... don't give calpol/etc. unless their temp is over 39 or they seem to be in pain and there's no need to seek medical advice until the temp is over 40 or will not come down with calpol/etc. if they seem otherwise well.

Obviously, if coupled with other worrying symptoms you should always have it checked out but generally, it's OK to look after baby yourself if they are otherwise well.

I know I'm a bit late now but does she ever suffer with reflux?

Being sick, refusing feeds and crying when not upright are all signs...so its a possibility.

And the temp could just be because she'd been crying and you'd been cuddling her?

I hope she's OK today

Could she be teething? When my LO started she oddly woke up screaming/sobbing in the night, which she never did before, and it put her off her food, they can get a temperature with it too?

i took alfie to a and e because he was vomiting and had diarroreah his temp was 38.8, they immediatly gave hime ibuprofen and calpol and told me to strip him off to get temp down his blood suagr was 13.9 (normall is around 7)
i would always err on the side of caution babies can deteriate so quickly!!
alfie is fine now but they told me i did exactly the right thing by taking him in

I have always been told by every health professional that 38 degrees is when you take babies to hospital or call the emergency doctor as the high end of babies' "normal" temperature is 37.2 degrees. Perhaps the health professionals say different things in different areas, although 38 degrees was also the cut off point stated when my friend's child was poorly in Portugal last year so would seem to be pretty universally accepted by professionals, and would certainly be the temp I'd use for my "panic button" with H.

In your case though BB, if lo's temp has dropped on it's own then I wouldn't worry as fever isn't ALWAYS a bad thing and is natures way of preventing some bugs and viruses getting worse. (clever things our bodies!).

Hope your lo continues to get better and her feeding is soon back to normal. There are some tummy bugs around at the mo. H has a little upset at the mo and for a couple of days before it turned up she's was taking less of her feeds (she's ff and usually polishes off 180mls no problem but only took about 120/150 for a couple of feeds) but seems fine in herself apart from being a little clingy bless her. Perhaps your lo has something similar on the way (although I hope not!!)

Xx

there are lots and lots of bugs going around. my little boy has been ill for 3 days with a temp of 38.5 that goes down with calpol! he has been very uninterested in feeding which is unusual as he is normally a pig. but took him to dr and he said its prob viral and today he is much better. so dont worry too much hun they are very resiliant! xx

I thought it was 38 too. As a mummy you'll know when you need to move to hospital anyway hun. Hope you feel better now after your stressful night x

I hope your LO is better today. Could she have been overexcited/overtired by things? The only time my LO has ever been like that is when she's been overstimulated and then gets too tired. Then she won't eat or sleep although she's desperately tired. It was scary the first time it happened!
