Not returning to work

So I've decided not to return to my work after my mat leave finishes. I will eventually but I have final year of uni to complete and whereas before I was pregnant, I managed to juggle a fulltime job and fulltime uni, *now* it'll just be impossible.

Is it just a matter then of me sending in a letter to say I won't be returning? I didn't get any fancy maternity package, just the statutory so I shouldn't owe them anything..

Tbh I'm glad! I enjoyed my work, but I hated the workplace and had issues over the way it was run. It'll also mean I can concentrate on doing as best I can at uni and decide what I want to do (and where I want to do it!) when I'm finished...

Do you owe them any notice? I owe my work 1 week as I have no work contract, so it will just be a set one, I have decided not to return either and I am just sending in my letter saying I wont be back and tellin them my weeks notice can be taken of my last week of Maternity leave - this is unpaid mat leave though as I took 12months

I dont think so. If anything, I'll be owed leave from the new year I think?

I hated the new boss so i'll be glad never to have to work with her again! She called my LO Conal in an email to me last week!1! She was quickly corrected!

Congrats sweetie
That must be a weight off?

I've just started a course to finish off one qual and start my postgrad and made a few decisions about mat leave at least. I know it feels great to focus on enjoying Hazel.

If you can enjoy more time with Culann that's got to be the right decision

I too have decided not to return to work as I would be paying out half my pay in childminding and as I only work 25 hours a week it's not really worth it, we don't get tax credits as hubby's on good wage but it'll still be hard going. My daughter's also really ill at the moment and may be going into hospital so not working will give me the time to focus on her and to enjoy Jacob while he is young. Really dread telling my boss though as I was off sick for my entire pregnancy due to hyperemesis though I don 't get mat pay from work, I get mat allowance instead so he's not actually paying me a penny so again I don't owe them anything.

Jealous!

Well, kind of. I think I'd miss my job if I didn't go back, but I'd love to have the choice.

I have to give my company 2 months notice of my intention to return (or not) I think that is pretty standard.

Also, bear in mind, you still accrue holidays whilst on Maternity leave which they should pay you for if you don't go back.
