Oral Thrush

LO has been havin on and off oral thrush since she was born. We do put medication but it keeps coming back!!

Lately she started refusing her bottle as well as her soother and sometimes she gags because she wants the bottle but when its in her mouth something happens and makes her vomit. She desperately wants to eat but the moment the bottle is in her mouth and she even slightly attemps to swallow she stretches and fusses and cries a lot. She doesnt actually vomit but makes very distressing vomiting sounds and she looks so scared

Could it be thrush that is causing this problem? I have now started giving her the medicine again (Miconazole), but wanted your opinion and advise.

Thanks

Has baby got any signs of oral thrush? I know when Noah was really bad it seemed to really affect his latching on.

Ive found daktarin oral gel works wonders for Noah, last week his mouth was totally covered within 2 days we had it mostly gone. It is prescription but I forgot mine when I went away so went to chemist and they sold me some over the counter.

I was told Noah's keeps coming back because he was run down, he went onto antibiotics and thrush can take hold more so then. I think Noah has had it 4 or 5 times now.

Carmen has thrush right now too, it's especially bad on her tongue . She's been getting frustrated in the middle of feeds and spitting out her pacifier; she seems so uncomfortable and I feel so bad for her. How long does it usually take to clear up? I hope your little one feels better soon!

Just to let you ladies know that giving a dummy/pacifier can reinfect your bubbas. My son had thrush when he was born and the doctor told me not to use a dummy as a dummy is in out in out all the time and thus making it extremely easy to reinfect. With a bottle obviously it doesnt have the chance to build up thrush as it only goes in and out once or twice.

So jack grew up not using a dummy due to thrush i suggest you ladies stop using them asap

Sini also had some thrush in her mouth, not so bad, but it is still visible at 6wks. The midwife told me that if it got worse should see the GP.

If in spite of giving the prescribed medication your little one still is having troubles (specially eating) I would also suggest to see your GP to have another check.

Good luck

Try to give her infant's camomile tea. It's good for treating thrush & it's cooling. Give her 2 spns of water after her feed, so that the milk wont build up & irritate her more. Also, cleaning her mouth with a soft cloth would work, but u have to be v. gentle.
