Formula sickness

Harry has been quite sick yesterday and today after each feed - he has been ok since he went onto formula but seems to get more sicky when we start a new packet of formula (same brand, just a new box)

Dh seems to think that this could be affecting his tummy with the formula being a different batch to the last one even though it's the same brand of formula????

Has anyone else experienced this?

I mentioned it at the clinic today when I took him to be weighed and they said they'd never thought of this before, he's putting on weight like a trooper so not too worried but it is sooooo frustrating when he is sick.

Omar was fine with his formula with no sick at all for the 1st 3 wks, then all changed he became very windy & started to vomit almost after every feed. 1st it was colic, then he had reflux. We had to change formula 4 times until we found a suitable one. It took us around 7 wks to finally settle on the best formula. He was also adding weight & was /still on the 90th percentile.

It's normal for babies to bring more milk back when they are formula fed. When they are breastfed most babies hardly bring anything back, and it can be quite scary when you first switch, cos it seems like loads. I know it terrified me.

The chances are that the amount being brought back is not as much as you think - try spilling an ounce of milk on the floor (or all down yourself if you wish) and you'll see that the amount you're getting is tiny in comparison!

I've never heard of anyone having a problem with a new pack of formula, it seems unlikely to me. The only thing I can think in that regard is how the powder has settled in the tub - perhaps you could give it a shake or stir before you start using it?

I found that the temperature makes quite a difference for my LO. Everyone told me it was fine to give formula at room temperature - WRONG! For us, this meant that I had a drenched muslin after every single feed. Simply making it a bit warmer meant he kept most of it down. It might be worth experimenting with the temperature you see if it helps.

If you keep having problems you could consider switching to a different brand.

Same for us. He still spits out more at room temp.

We wind every ounce too.

I found it better if I wind after he finishes the whole bottle. Try also the anti colic bottles.

we tried this last night and it helped to settle him a lot health visitor came today too and said it was normal for him to posset so much after each feed. We'd upped the amount to 5 oz on each feed cos he was still hungry so this might've affected him too. with a bit of luck he'll be ok

She said that sometimes they're just sick a bit after feeding and not to worry, also that the amount looks more than you think. We've got the anti colic avent bottles and they help with the winding massively. The health visitor also said if they're doing plenty of nappies then not to worry either
