I had an emergency section with my son at 36 weeks because I had pre eclampsia and I fitted and collapsed.

I would really like to go for a natural bith this time but I have to wait until my detailed scan on 16 march until they tell me if that's possible... something to do with how my wound healed or something that means it could be more risky to have a natural birht like I'm sure someone said about the scar on the inside fusing tissues together or something...

But up until I got PG I always thought I would just have another section.

Have you thought about getting a second opinion? Perhaps from an independent midwife?
I asked 3 people already...

A family friend who is also a NHS midwife, who is a little cautious
My doctor in Switzerland (where I had G although we are now back in the UK) - again a bit pro intervention
BUT
also discussed it in depth with my independent midwife in Switzerland. She was the lady I was going to use for homebirth this time and she was very anti--intervention. She would even consider homebirths for breech babies etc but said that she wouldn't be happy to take on somebody in my situation; and I lived only 500m from the hospital over there. I trust her opinion unfortunately.
Sorry hun. It's still possible to have a good crack at an intervention-free birth in hospital if you have a supportive team around you

Hmm, I have this dilemma too, sometimes I think I would definately have another c section and others I think that I'd really like to try and give birth.

My pregnancy was soo medicalised though, and ended up so far away from what I had wanted in the beginning, I think I'm still coming to terms with it, but of course, when it's your first time you just dont know how you can do things differently.

I had gestational diabetes, ended up on insulin and was told that I'd be induced between 36-38 weeks depending on my blood sugars. I was excellently controlled once I was on insulin and made it to 38 weeks. I was induced and had contractions for 4 days before my waters went and before I dilated AT ALL, but Brady was quite happy in there so they didn't accelerate the process until my waters had gone. Even then I dilated 5 cm in about 14 hours and Brady had turned back to back, on top of that I was told on the day that they actually couldn't do an epidural because I have psoriasis on my back (even though I had seen an anaesthatist during pregnancy). In the end I was distressed as I was just not coping with the pain at all because i had so many drips in and the monitor on I couldn't move, Brady got distressed and ended up with an emcs.

There are lots of IFs though, if I didn't have GD next time and didn't have to be induced then I'd like to do it, if I could get the psoriasis on my back to heal then I could try it even if I had GD because I would at least have the option of that for pain relief.

Unfortunately, there is such a strong history of diabetes in my family and having had it with one pregnancy I think I will get it next time, in which case I would never let them induce me unless I had the option of the epidural.

I think when you only have one birthing experience to go on and it's a negative one it can be difficult to imagine what the next one could be like.

I had high blood pressure and was induced on a drip. LO was distressed after 5 hours of contractions and going nowhere so hence the section.
I wanted natural birth with no drugs, and definately no epidural...haha!

Would I have one again....if I needed to, but I'm certainly hoping to do it naturally next time, I'll have a toddler to look after and don't think I could cope with the slow recovery.

I had a terrible time with an emergency c-section (Life of death for me and my little one) and I went on to have another child and have a scheduled c-section. My second pregnancy was normal until I hit closer to the end where I developed high blood pressure and was put on bedrest. I won't go into too many details here but on my way to my doctor after measuring 4 weeks smaller than I should the week before I knew my bp was higher and I would end up being induced as previously discussed, my placenta detached and I began bleeding to death and within the first 5 minutes my son, Kaleb lost too much blood...
It detached at 3:15 and at 4:23 he was delivered by emergency c-section. I was put to sleep as they didn't have time to do an epidural or spinal and when I woke my son was in the NICU on life support. He passed away at 12:20 the morning of Feb 8th 2008, after only being here with us for 8 hours. I was 37 weeks pregnant.

I wasn't even sure if I was able to have more children for a few months as they had to do many tests trying to find out why this happened to me. Nothing was ever found other than the HBP so they said that must have been the cause. Anyways, once it was all clear and I could try again, I wasn't sure I wanted to go through anything like that again in my life. I had a healthy 6 year old at home with me and Mark said he was okay with not having his own biological child...

I ended up getting pregnant and finding out on mothers day, 2009 with a beautiful baby girl and was scheduled in for a c-section at 36+5 in hopes of preventing another abruption from happening. I was terrified! I went in on December 30th and thought it was the worst thing ever! It was nothing!!!!!!!! I seriously wouldn't be scared of the surgery when scheduled. I mean I went in there and the worst thing was the IV! It was amazing and the recovery was awesome as well. I felt find after the first 7 days it was nothing like the last one and honestly was easier than labor too. Plus my complications didn't happen again and I have a happy ending to all our struggles I understand your fears and I am here if anyone wants to talk, they can PM me or whatever...
It is scary when you go through anything traumatic to think about chancing doing all over again but I look down at my daughter and it was worth the weekly specialist visits, ultrasounds and biophysicals, strict diet and being put off work at 16 weeks on sick leave she is here and healthy and I am feeling great!

Also I did have high BP this last pregnancy but was medicated and it was controlled this time unlike before... Only thing that wasn't good this time around.

Sometimes repeat c-sections are necessary and are worth it.

I completely agree with Shifter's 1st post. I had an emergency c-sec with Kaya after she got stuck. I did loads of reading and tried for a home vbac with Blythe. As it turned out I needed another section for similar reasons to the first, but I wouldn't change the fact that I tried for the world. I had 2 really good labours at home and know that the sections were needed. Next time I'm opting for an elective (once is bad luck, twice there's a reason) but I'm not liking the idea, I'm going to find a surgeon that will do a 'natural' section and push it as close to 40 weeks as I can.
