Blocked tear duct?

Kaidens eye is runny and gunky. The mw, doc and hv have all checked and swabbed for infection which he defintly hasn't got. The eye is not red or inflamed. The doc is really vague when I ask about it and doesn't say alot, apart from we will only worry if he still has it at 8months! So I'm just wondering if anyone elses lo suffers from a blocked tear duct and if there is anything I can do to help him? They said put breastmilk in it which I did for the first 9weeks but I'm not breastfeeding anymore, so apart from keeping it clean I don't know what to do. Thanks.

Oh bless, we were told to gently stroke down the side of the nose several times a day where the duct runs. it clears up with us after doing this for a day or 2. When her eye got a bit red with it we were given drops but dont need them now.

Hope it clears up soon

Andrew had his first gunky eye last week, so I did the breastmilk trick (I'm expressing so it was easy!) and I also gently massaged the tear-duct area on the side of his nose. I don't know which worked or whether it was a combination, but the problem cleared up within 24 hours.

Ellie had this for a while recently. I'd recommend cleaning the eye with cotton wool and salt water. It cleared hers up

Hi hun my little boy has had blocked tear ducts from birth. They have never caused him any problems other than sticky gunky eyes. He tends to be prone to eye infections, I think some people are more prone than other so I dont know if its because of his tear ducts, or just how he's made, but drops clear it up brilliantly within days.

Keep it clean & doing the massage, I think most babies clear up on their own by 12 months, I was advised to wait until 12 months then to see a Dr.

x

I was told to gently massage as well and it's cleared up in no time!
