Clothe diapers - really bad fishy odor?

Anyone using clothe diapers?

I'm using bumgenius 3.0 and washing as instructed (cold, then hot, extra rinse) every other day. But I've started noticing that my baby's diapers have this fishy ammonium odor ... I expected the diapers to smell when they've been hanging out in the pail for over a day, but I just took one off my girl and it's already fishy! She's only worn it for 2 hours.

Is it her urine that smells, or the diaper?? Any one with experience can comment? Am I not laundering the diapers correctly? Too much detergent? I'm using expensive all-natural detergent by the way.

Or does she have some bacterial infection?

Bumgenius inserts are notorious for stink issues. I loved my BG but had the same problem and couldn't deal with it. So I got some of the Bg organic aio..and they don't have the same issues as the pockets. But you can try putting some oxyclean and vinegar together and soaking it over night. That should really help

I was going to suggest a strip wash too! Harrison wears wonderoos and they get a bit whiffy sometimes x

Thanks gals. I did a bit more google searching and it seems the culprit is too much detergent. She's had 4 leakage (back all wet!) in the last week. So I suppose the stink and leakage is due to detergent build up. I'm using disposables for now while I strip them. They say it may take several washes to get it all out. :\ poo!
