Cloth Diapers

Hi there! I am wondering how many people use cloth diapers and what your experience has been? I use them at least half the time on my 1 month old baby, and I am finding it a bit tough.....I first bought a sample pack of diapers which included a pre-fold (no way), an all-in-one (love it), and a couple of different covers with inserts. I decided on one type before my baby was even born which may not have been the best idea.....I dont like them as much as i thought i would. I bought a whole bunch of the apple bottom ones ( i will post a pic/link). they are super cute, i have blue pink and red covers and 2 dozen inserts. They fit well and dont leak, but i find that even with the liners you can get (flushable), that every time she poops, i have to change the diaper cover too and I only have 6 (they are expensive) as that is what the suggestion was as to how many i would need. most people say you can just flush the liner and then change the insert and re-use the diaper cover all day long but i jsut dont seem to be that lucky. Her poops go right through the liner and make it dirty and wet. I am just wondering what kind of cloth diapers people use and what their experiences have been...i feel bad about switching if i have to (to the fuzzibuns all-in-one that i love) since my auntie bought me my diapers as a gift (about 300 CAD!!!).......But I will have to switch when she gets a bit bigger anyhow and I want the next diapers to be more effective as we will be heading towards potty training when she is into bigger diapers.

Im using mostly Pockets and AIO/AI2's I get on with them all quite well and so far i like my Itti bitti AIO's the best as they rarely leak and fit like a glove, that being said, when i decided to use cloth (i was 4 months pregnant) i started collecting all different brand types of AIO/AI2 and pockets... and bum genius & gro baby work for me quite well too!

I got gifted a pack of prefolds with covers and they work ok but i get the covers dirty every time he poo's too (he is Breastfed and his poo i spretty much liquid!).. so not much help there, i find that flushable liners tend to make his poo go everywhere and i now use fleece liners (cut up form a fleece blanket myself) which containes it a lot better...

BTW, if you dont get on with the ones you got gifted you can always sell them 2nd hand, cloth diapers sell for quite a bit second hand and it will give you some cash to buy the ones that work for you!

Hi, btw this post may get a better response in the natural parenting section. But I use a mixture of bum genius v3, and pop ins and I love them both. They are one size so last right through to potty training & come with 2 sizes of liner for big wetters! I keep them in a bucket of cold water once they have been used & wash them every other day and I have 20 nappies. Hope u find some that u like x bonnie

Another vote for bumGenius AIO's here. I've just started using them on my bubs and love them. I love the fact that they are birth to potty so she won't grow out of them (hopefully!). They wash well and dry pretty quick too - I don't have a dryer so put them on a heated airer and they dry overnight.

ETA: I dry pail them and wash every other day, and the stains come out fine with a tiny bit of Napisan added to the wash.

We have cloth nappied since day 1. we use pockets/shaped terrys and are about to order some AI2/AI1's. Bumgenius are great, as are tots bots organics. We dry pail, wash every other day and have no stains at all, I wash on 40 with eco washing liquid.

Hi mommyhav-

I love my cloth diapers - luckily I got a variety of them at first so I could see which ones fit LO best and I liked using. The diaper you are showing looks like a pocket without a separate cover? If that is the case, then you can't generally flush the liner and have the diaper stay good. I use fitteds with covers and in this case you can put the fitted in the laundry and reuse the cover - same with prefolds.

Also, I find the flushable liners are only good once LO is eating solids. There is no way they would hold Buns breastfeeding poo! It would go right through.

I also like the bungenius (but I use fitteds, not birth to potty) and fuzzi bunz if you are looking for that kind of diaper. Otherwise I use natural fitted diapers (bamboozles, hempy heinys, kissaluvs) with thirsties duo wrap covers (LOVE these) . You should definitely try a few and see which ones you like.

There is also a swap & sell in the natural parenting section!

xx
