Things i wish i knew about being a new mum!

When i was pregnant i had these stupid ideas of how i thought motherhood would be - dont get me wrong i knew it was going to be hard work, but its amazing how different it is to what you would expect!! Here's a few things that i never even thought about!!

I thought that newborn babies sleep, eat, sleep, eat, sleep! How wrong was I when my newborn only slept 5 hours in 24 for the first 2 weeks!!

I knew breastfeeding would be hard, but no-one told my milk might NEVER come in! I didnt realise this even existed!!

I didnt realise that some babies get colic, reflux, constipation that would have them screaming at all hours of the day/night!

I thought i wouldnt need many newborn clothes so didnt buy a lot, stupidly i didnt realise that most newborn is up to 10lbs!! duuh!!

I thought we'd get away with a couple of loads of washing a week!! (try a DAY!) lol

Anyone else got any more to add?!

Xxx

Totally agree with the newborn clothes - hospital told me I was having a massive baby but she wasn't too huge. My parents had to get boys newborn babygros from Tesco as that's all they had.

To add to your list- no one warned me that as soon as I removed a nappy, baby was likely to take this as a sign to do a huge wee!

I'd forgotten about that one. I thought something was wrong with Esmé when I first saw it.

Also, I didn't know how fast their nails grow (and very sharp too!). And then how scary it is cutting the nails for the first time.

This is a good thread!

I would have to add that I had no idea that babys lost their hair
Aidan had a headfull-sideburns and all. And at around 2 and a half months it started "wearing" off and now he only has hair on the top and none on the sides haha too cute!

i wish i'd known:

that when you change a newborn, majority of the time you have to CHANGE EVERYTHING!

the actuall amount of stuff you need to take around with you 'just incase' even if it's just a nip to the shop!

just how LOUD a baby can be!

that some babies don't like certain things...like dummys..i thought i was beeing smart stocking up on tommee tippee dummies n he won't entertain them!

and the amount of toys ect that clog up the living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and hallway...not to mention the stuff in the car lol
