that I could possibly love someone else SOOOO MUCH

that going back to work would feel like my heart is getting ripped out of my chest everday

That cleaning up poo or throw-up wouldn't even phase me

I didn't realize how use to cold tea I was until I went back to work last week. I made myself tea and then BURNT MY MOUTH. Nothing had distracted me from drinking it like being at home did!

-Definitely second the cold tea/cold food thing!
-That i would feel so protective over Izzy
-When i was pregnant i pictured me being a well dressed yummy mummy, no chance! most days i cant even be bothered to brush my hair, lol!
-That i would get wound up (i am a very patient person but sometimes have to take 5 mins to compose myself!) But then when she smiles i forget it all!
-And how going anywhere is a military operation!

great thread!

That after 9 months of really fancying a drink (alcohol) and not having anything, i wouldnt even want more than 2 drinks now cos i know i have a baby to look after (one that is far to used to coming in our bed at night)

Like others - that it really is a military operation to get out the house - and i no longer know what 'just popping' to the shops is!

That i could possibly feel so responsible for someone else

That my house which only has a lounge and small kitchen downstairs, would have toys out permanently - i forgot about big toys and thought it would all fit in the toy box!

That i would (most of the time!) be able to function quiet well on a broken night sleep every night

That mums actually do know best - i spent far to much time worrying over what i should/should not be doing, but not enough time in the beginning to have confidence in myself as a mum and my husband as a dad

Thinking back to when I had my first.. I wish someone had told me how incredibly thirsty breastfeeding can make you! I have bottles of diluted juice everywhere now just in case.

That a baby can be so distracting, that you will crash your trolley into all manner of aisles when shopping because you're too busy trying to get a smile to concentrate on where you are walking.

That road rage becomes the norm when you have your precious child in the car and anyone suddenly braking in front of you can have you turning the air blue with insults directed at said driver.

And lastly, that it's possible to seriously miss your baby when they start sleeping through the night!!

To think I believed the books that told me my baby would require feeding every 3 hours............I think it must have been a typo and it actually meant that there would only 3 hours in the day when she wasn't feeding!!
I thought I was meant to change her nappy every time she woke for a night feed.(see above for how many nappies I got through!).My HV only enlightened me at 12 weeks............
I didnt realise that every shopping list would include about 2 dozen AA batteries for all the toys!.

I know this is completely unrelated to the thread, but seriously, I have struggled with dry and cracked hand skin for years and the best thing for it is body shoe hemp hand protector cream. I give it to all new mummies as a present because it softens them up again straight away. Bit pricey but a tube will last you ages!
Ohhh where do you get it from ? its feels horrible when im rubbing LOs back after a feed, il pay whatever lol x
I've had this too - so bad even aqueous cream stung!! Dr gave me and emollient cream but it's soooo greasy! Will try the cream you recommend! Thanks x

And in reply to OP - I never knew that every time I have to change a nappy when I'm not at home it's always a FAR messier nappy than usual!!

Totally agree with this one! He has been asleep for three hours in his own cot instead of in my arms as he used to be and I feel like I am missing something. This is after weeks of wishing he would go to sleep on his own!

Ooooooh i agree with so many of these! This in particular:

definitely rings true for me at the minute! I don't know how people manage to be "yummy mummies" when i can barely manage "clean mummy" I do have a yummy mummy changing bag as well and i'm sure people must think i am being ironic when they see me carrying it when we're out and about

I was well clued up on breastfeeding prior to having Toby and yet at the same time, didn't really have a clue what it was all about and what it would be like?!

Also i never realised how open minded you need to be, i never though i'd do so many things i have ended up doing (like co sleeping for e.g.) but you get to realise that life with a baby doesn't usually go "according to plan"!

thought of some more
That if i sleep wth him in my bed i somehow dont move a single muscle, always wake up in the xact same position
That anything could look so perfect in ever possible way.
the strength id gt in my arms from carrying him all the time
that rather than pine, id fear going out without him
how quickly he would grow xxxx
