Hi hun, My LO has just only started smiling but you have try so hard to get her to do this, she is 12 weeks today. (maybe its because am not funny)
Doctor has requested to see her today after her injections as a follow up due to not smiling at 8 week check up, but its more for me been concerned rather an a problem with LO.

Sxxx

I agree with everyone else about the smiling. With the not looking at you when you talk, maybe it's just that he sees you all the time and is so used to your voice? I know my LO spends all day with me and hardly ever turns to look at me when I talk to her but when my OH comes home, she looks at him every time he opens his mouth.

Same here... my LO smiled around the 9 week time and didn't look at me often before then. He was already used to me and wanted to look at new things. Once he started giving us huge smiles (after waking up and also when getting his diaper changed), then he started looking right at me finally.

Thanks ladies - I guess I should stop comparing him already! Enough people will do it in his lifetime, it doesn't have to start yet. Just would love some little smiles so I know he really does know who his mummy is!
xx

Been reading - he was born 4 weeks early - would this mean that his milestones would happen later? I know in a preemie it would, but I always assumed since he wasn't that early it would make no difference? Anyone know?
xx

My LO was born 3.5 weeks early... I'm guessing that's why it took him until the 9 week mark to do proper smiles. I've noticed a lot of babies normally do this around the 5-6 week mark.

I think I have read this too hun, my LO wasnt born early but I have definitely read elsewhere that their milestones are reached later, or actually on time (had they been born on time rather than early). If you know what I mean! Don't worry (and also my little boy was not great at eye contact until he reached around 8 weeks, he started smiling at 5 weeks, but he was born 5 days late!) xx

sounds like you may have a point with the being 4 weeks early! try not to worry (yeah easily said I know!) my LO smiled really early but at every one else but me! they dont seem to realise that you are not just an extension of them at that age and she rarely turned her head to look at me! like everyone else has said boys can e even later! we met a guy who had a preemie baby born the same time as Sofia who only smiled at 12 weeks....... the milestones can just slip a little, I bet he's just perfect! xxxx

my 5yr old son was 4 weeks early and his first milestones like smiling were delayed somewhat so he didnt smile until he was about 2and half to 3 months old...dont worry he will get there! you couldnt tell my son was early once he was about 6months old he had caught up just fine!
