Going to 1st baby class tomorrow and nervous

Hi, my son is almost 5 months old and I decided that inorder to help him when he goes to nursery I would start taking him to classes so he could mix with other babies. I know he wont really play with them but he can look at them.

So I decided to give baby gymboree a try and the first class is tomorrow. I think it will be good for him and probably me aswell but I am extemely nervous. I am nervous incase no-one talks to me and they are all in their cliques.

This is the reason I didn't start going to a baby and toddler group. At least this class it is tutor orientated but I am not looking forward to it. I try to tell myself that I am going or my son and it only last 50 minutes.

Did anyone else feel like this. Do you all take your babies to somesort of class? and did it help them?

tee hee, I hate mum and baby groups too. I don't want to interact with people lol. I'm a weirdo and some one has always spoken to me and Finn loves it. If they are cliquey, you can go somewhere else, so try not to get too stressed.

I go to a baby class with Noah, weve been going since he was about 16 weeks and i was really nervous but theres a pretty nice atmosphere and he does love it. plus you get to see all the other babies growing so its really nice. i think its natural to be nervous, i was. but its worth going, hes always knackered afterwards too!

i think it does help in many ways, you can get a chat and they get to interact with the other babies, even though at this stage they dont really do much except share the same space.

give it a try, and if it isnt for you then try something else. but i bet youll love it (and he will to of course!) hope you have fun xx

ive opted for classes rather than mums & babies groups too! we do baby massage & baby swimming, and are about to start baby signing. ive tried 3 mums and tots locally and hated them all.. cliquey and bitchy... and for some reason they all seem to think baby wearing is the weirdest thing ever??????? i even had one really rude woman actually point and laugh when i came in!!!!!
classes are fab, everyone starts in the same week, so you all get to know each other together, and everyones in the same boat!
kids are a fab ice breaker... if there is a lull in the conversation, just ask something about their baby & it will open up a nice conversation!
good luck, i bet you love it!!

I am the same as you!! I am far too nervous to go to a mother and baby group but do go to baby swimming. We love it and as NIfirsttimer said everyone starts together so everyone is new together so no groups are formed. Also you can concentrate on doing the activity rather than make conversation if you so wish.

Please let us know how Gymboree goes as I have been looking at going myself and would love to know what it is like! Also do you mind telling me how much it costs to go? Thanks

xx

well I went and he loved it!!
Lots of songs and toys and he cooed away.
All the mums were very nice.

I registered to go back but now wishing I hadnt filled their form in as I had to give my bank card details, i.e. the card number, expiry date and security code. Never thought about it at the time but now cursing myself and wondering if I should pone halifax and cancel the card.

Glad you enjoyed it. Maybe you could just get halifax to notify you if there's any unusal transactions on the card. X
