Bad reaction to H1N1 vaccine

Our little guy had his second H1N1 shot two days ago and he's reacting really badly to it. Three weeks ago he had the first dose, and his leg was a bit sore with a small lump under the skin for a day, but that was it. It's been more than 48h since he had the second dose and his leg is swollen, warm, and there's a HUGE (half a golf ball size) lump beneath the skin. The skin over the lump is red and hot to the touch. He's feverish, has very little appetite, and he's acting truly miserable I've given him ibuprofen and acetaminophen, staggered throughout the day, to keep the fever and pain down but he's still feeling terrible. To make things worse, his two front teeth are cutting through the gum, with two more beside them looking about a week away from coming through.

I'm not sure if this warrants a call or visit to the health clinic - our doctor works Monday to Friday, but there's always someone on call on weekends, so we could take him in if needed. If you've had your LO vaccinated for H1N1, how did s/he react? Should I be worried?

My daughter didn't get the H1N1 shot, so I can't help out much; but I would closely watch how he does throughout the night and if things are just as bad or worse in the morning, I would call your doctor and tell them what's going on. It's always better to be safe! Hope he starts feeling better!

On all the sheets we were given about vaccines they said if the fever goes over 102 to call the dr because that wouldn't be considered a "normal" reaction to the vaccine

I would definitely call the doctor to let them know whats going on. Better to be on the safe side so you are not worrying about your little one. Just a quick phone call to ask them and they can either reassure you that its normal or tell you the proper steps to take. Good luck.

i would call the dr to be safe hun, but its probably nothing
my lo had quite a swollen leg with one of the normal injections with alump under the skin and they said that was normal. he hasnt had the swineflu one but i have read that for upto 48 hours or so it is very normal to have cold / flu type symptoms and swelling to the injection site.
like i said though i would call to be sure, but im sure if it was a serious reaction it would have become apparent by now if not immediatly after he shot

I would take him to the doctors. Any good doctor would never be upset you took a baby for even minor things, mine always says, better safe then sorry and are very nice about it. But that seems a more extreme reaction then normal and I would want him checked

Thanks everyone for the replies
He was up quite a few times in the night and I watched him very closely, he seemed to be getting steadily better. This morning the redness had gone down, and his leg is no longer hot to the touch. He has an awful bruise, I think that's what the lump is, it's just starting to show now. He had hives when he woke up, but no fever. A little Benadryl and he's right as rain - his pain seems to be minimal, he's in a much better mood, the only thing left is the big bruise and I'm sure that will go down quickly.

I do plan to call the doctor's office on Monday - I was reading all about the vaccine on a government website last night and they ask that anyone who has any type of adverse reaction report it to the doctor, so it can be reported to the folks who collect statistics on health and vaccinations. I also want it in his file that he had a bad reaction, so they know for future vaccines in case it makes a difference.
