8 week old, feeding/sleeping routine.. Am I doing something wrong?
LO is 8 wks today and weighs over 12 lbs. She is bf except her bottle at 10.30pm which is ebm and topped up with aptimil.
She gets up at 7 and feeds every 3 hours all day except she has a feed at 5 and another at 6ish after her bath - she then goes down like a dreamby 7pm. OH normally wakes her at 10ish and she takes a good 100-120ml. She had a growth spurt from hell at 6 weeks and after that would wake at 3am and feed and then about 6.30 which was perfect. But the last fewnights she hasbeen waking at 2.30, 4.30 and then 6.30.... Aghhh
tried soothing her instead of just feeding but doesn't work and she feeds for about 10mins before dropping off.
Do I just have a very hungry baby? She has never gone longer than4.5 hours at night and at 2 weeks old she was going 4hours and her stomach must be much bigger now - she has put on near 4lbs!!!
I just can't handle all these night feeds and am going back to work soon....
does she cry for food when she wakes at these times? my LO is 6 months and she feeds at bedtime then 9pm then 1am then wakes playing in the cot about 4am and 5 am but i leave her and she goes back to sleep, she doesnt cry tho
Yep she cries - particularly at the 4.30 time I try everything to settle her before food but nothing works, she is busy crying and thrashing her arms. If she went 4 hrs from the 2.30 feed that would be great but feeding every 2 hours just seems too frequent
My LO feeds every 2.5-3 hours..he to seems to be unsettled and thrashes around very angry until i feed him. I try to make him go longer and would love love love him to go more than 4 hours between feeds. he takes in a good 4-5 ounces every feed. I try to give him a soother/dummy/pacifier and that does no good lately. He was breastfed up until 3 weeks ago and I stopped to try to fix his sleep patter as I have 4 other kids who need my attention and a DH who gets home at 7am and needs the bedroom. So I am right there with ya on that.
Ditto, mine has started doing this too. He had got into the habit of going to sleep at 11 and then going off until 3/4am, and then going another 3/4 hours, but this has all changed now! He is dream fed at 11.30 ish, taking a good 100ml, and still wakes at 2.30 am! It is a bit of a nightmare but I hope he will grow out of it as he puts on more weight (he is 10lbs 15oz at the moment). Arggggh..
my (almost) 10 month old still wakes for a feed up to 3 times a night, so i can;t really offer any useful advice, just get plenty of rest in the day if you can.
My other boy woke up through the night untill he was threee, so i had the unlucky draw there! lol
Have you tried posting this question in the Breastfeeding forum? I can't say much as I only lasted 3 weeks with BF, but what I *do* remember is that BF babies normally only go 2-3 hours between feeds. Its FF babies that can go up to 4 hours.
Maybe in there the ladies who are much better at this stuff than I was could help you? Hope you figure out something too, I totally understand how weary you can get without sleeping! Hang in there, you're doing a great job!
