To bath or not bath every day

Arrgh, conflicting advice as usual! Most MWs, HVs, etc. have told us not to bath baby every day as it can dry out the skin. However, in a pharmacy handbook that I'm looking at, I've just read the following advice: "A bath is good therapy for atopic eczema or severe dry skin as it hydrates the skin and provides a good base for the application of emollients" ... which suggests that this author thinks that a bath does NOT dry out the skin.

Those of you who bath babies every day, what do you think?

I was told to bath my dd everyday when she was about 4 weeks old and had ezcema... I had something to put in the bath (cant remember what it was called) and cream to put on her at every nappy change.... her ezcema didn't improve after a few weeks so i decided to cut back on baths, not use the stuff for the bath and only applied the cream once a day... her 'ezcema' cleared up after a week and she hasnt had any since and shes now 27 months! Not sure if it wasnt actually ezcema that she had or if all that bathing etc was drying her skin out.

I've been told that they should be washed everyday, with at least 1 bath per week to 'get in all the nooks and crannies'....this was the midwifery assistant at the hospital that said this. She said that she continued this with her boys until they were 3 months old then built up the number of baths.

I now bath Earl once per week (last night was his latest and he LOVED it!!) with a flannel bath every night as part of his bedtime routine. This seems to work and with a rub down with lotion afterwards, his dry skin hasn't flared up again.

I was told don't bath everyday but to do top and tails everyday.

Even now, she only has 2-3 baths a week as she doesn't get dirty and I'm not risking it when it's unnecassary (my dad, OHs dad and myself all suffer from dry skin).

I was told not to bath everyday by the HV, so I bath Maiya 2 to 3 times a week and she loves her bath!

We used to bath every day .. purely because it helped with the bedtime routine. Chilled him out and he slept much better the nights after a bath. Now I bath him 2-4 times a week as he doesn't really get dirty. He loves it tho

I bath every evening and top and tail in the mornings. I wasn't told not to, I've done it since birth. I use baby moisturiser afterwards it helped when he was flakey after the birth
