Best Home Remedies - Add Yours!

So I thought we could all make a list of the best home remedies we've tried which worked well with our LOs. (If there's another thread like this, then my apologies as I couldn't find it.)

I'll start:

Corn Starch for rashes. Diaper rash disappears overnight and heat rashes are gone after a bath.

Two ways to use it:

mix with water and have it as a last rinse after a bath.

use it as powder for the diapers or to dust on affected area.

i really recommend this as it worked like a miracle with my son and his diaper rashes!

Good idea! Here are some things that have worked for us...

For diaper rash (in our case it was caused by an allergy to certain diapers): Vaseline. Spread thick, it moisturizes (some rashes benefit from drying out, our doc told us this one needed the opposite) and protects the skin from urine which stings and can make things worse.

For rough, chapped knees & elbows (from crawling all day) I'm using a cocoa butter and vitamin E cream designed for stretch marks - it's marketed toward pregnant women, but being an all-natural product that's super moisturizing it seems to work well for babies too.

heres some i've used...

Olive oil is great for dry skin (Kian had really dry flakey skin when he was born). Its great for baby massage and i've been told it works really well for cradle cap (Kian does have this but apparently if u put some on leave it over night then brush head/hair with a soft baby brush)

vasaline put on a dry face is great for preventing teething /dribble rash

a little bit of salty water for any kinds of wounds/ raw area/ sore areas (encluding those caused by nappy rash). Just bathe with a bit of salt water and leave it to air dry and it drys out the wound as well as working as an antiseptic...i was told to use by the GP when Kians belly button got infected. It stings a bit tho!

I make my own bath soak for alex for his eczema, it was suggested by a friend and works a treat!
You get an old sock and put some oats in and a couple drops of lavender oil in. Let it soak in the bath whilst running and when you wash LO give it a squeeze over their skin and rub it in.

wow. easy to do home remedies, too!

i think i'm going to get me a jar of vaseline. it seems to be such a help in so many ways.

@purple_socks - i heard about olive oil used for massages. i might try it on Elijah one of these days. i use an indonesian oil called Minyak Telon for his daily massage and it seems good for his skin as well. it's said to be good for soothing tummy aches and warming the body after his bath. it seems as if there is no english translation for the word 'telon' but 'minyak' means oil. so it's telon oil. haven't seen it anywhere else in the world, though.

@Hope22 - i will keep the cocoa butter and vit E in mind for when Elijah starts crawling. i might be able to find it one of the body shops here.

@Arcanegirl - i like the sound of lavender oil in his bath. will ask hubby to buy me a bottle of it in the local market and put a drop or two in his night bath.

thanks for the ideas, ladies. hope it helps other moms or moms-to-be in this forum.
