| Do the tired signs change as they get older? Hi,
I'm finding it harder and harder to put my LO down for his naps during the day. He will start yawning and getting a little grumpy so we head for the nursery, change his nappy, into the grobag, little cuddle etc. But when he hits the cot, loud crying and he doesn't settle, even when I pick him up. He just seems wide awake, even babbling. Should I be letting him yawn and show his tired signs for half an hour or so now that he's 4 months? I just don't want to get into that 'over-tired' space as we all know how hard it is to put an over-tired baby to sleep! It's hardest first nap of the day, when he's yawning after 1.5hrs after getting up. Should I just keep him up longer?
Thanks | | | | Status: Offline

| I dont think it changes, Euan rubs his eyes and his nose when he is tired and i find that i feed him first, then put him to bed and usually its pretty good. | | | | Status: Offline

| Yeah, Ruby's tired signs have definitely changed. She used to just get cranky and do a moany cry, or just fall asleep, but now her eyes look red, she rubs her eyes, and if I'm holding her, she rubs her face into me. | | | | Status: Offline

| Yep they have changed fo us aswell, used to just be a yawn but now he yawns for no reason but his true sleep signs is rubbing eyes, rubbing face into me/the floor.
Could you change his nappy after a nap rather than before? Chbanging the nappy couuld be waking him up so that yours getting the struggle to get him to sleep again. | | | | Status: Offline

| Not really..
She still rubs her eyes or rubs her face into my shoulder if I'm holding her, she still yawns, she still looks tired and she still pulls on her ear sometimes.
I have got better and just "knowing" that she's tired (even when none of the above are evident, I'll still just "know") so I actually find it easier to put her down for naps now.
I do remember though that at about 4months it was very difficult to get her to nap during the day. I remember myself and a few other mums with babies the same age posting numerous threads about it.
So I don't know if it's just an age thing for you but it didn't last long for us (couple weeks max). | | | | Status: Offline

| Hi hun
aaliyah tends just rum her eyes, I tend to ignore the yarning as she sometimes yarns after a nap in the morning, after I feed her I tend to give her teddy/rag doll and put her down, change before feed so the feed tends 2 knock her out (so 2 speck) | | | | Status: Offline

| I ignore the yawning aswell, I find she yawns even when shes not physically ready for a sleep, she starts to rub her eyes and when shes really tired she plays with her ear! Signs have def changed as before she used to not really give us any signs and she always got over tired, I agree with someone above I just seem to 'know' when its time for sleep! | | | | Status: Offline

| Before, it used to be just the yawns and the little cries. These days, we can tell he's tired if he rubs his eyes/face or buries his face into our shoulders or chest. | | | | Status: Offline

| Thanks everyone I think it's those yawns throwing us off - he seems to do them randomly now, when I know he isn't really tired yet. Will keep a lookout of the other signs more. | | | | Status: Offline
