| Back Pain, worse than pregnancy. My boy is 3 weeks old, and as of the last week I have had TERRIBLE pains in my back. When I'm standing for more than a few minutes, it's my whole lower back aching so badly that I have to sway from side to side just to ease it. And when I'm sitting, my shoulders and whole upper back feel terrible. It's giving me a headache, also. I NEVER felt like this while pregnant, even at the end, and he was almost 9 pounds.
Is this normal? Could it be from holding the baby? He's over 10 pounds, and he can be kind of particular about the position I have him in. Like, sometimes he's only content if I hold him so he's sitting straight up...and he wants to stay that way...it gets tiring.
Is there anything I can do about it? | | | | Status: Online

| Are you still bleeding from the birth? Do you feel as if you have a fever at all? Are you peeing ok? Any burning when you pee? Did you have a normal birth? This backpain sounds like you might have an infection. I would contact your HV or midwife about it. | | | | Status: Offline

| Stopped spotting, finally, peeing alright, no fever...but I did have a C section. I know my abdominal muscles were shot for a while. Maybe the pain is from having to compensate to stand upright?? | | | | Status: Online

| i would get checked out to be on the safe side hun, i had sciatica towards the end of my preg and for a few weeks after i gave birth it was much worse, i dunno if the pressure of giving birth trapped the nerve further, but it took a while to go back to normal | | | | Status: Online

| I'd go see your doctor. The bottom of my back was KILLING me for about a month after I gave birth. Turns out it was a pinched nerve. When all the bones were moving back to where they belong, they pinched a nerve on the way. I was given anti inflamitory (sp) cream, and after only a few days, it worked!! Good luck. Having a sore back makes it harder to enjoy things doesn't it? | | | | Status: Online

| I got a really bad back in the first few weeks after Evie was born and it was because of handling her so much and often in awkward positions. My doctor gave me some tablets to help the inflammed muscles and gave me advice on how to adapt the way I was lifting LO (main thing was to use both sides of my body symmetrically when lifting). As you say, your back muscles are having to compensate a lot for your abdominals too so could be this. I would def got to the dr's and get it checked out.
