Bottom wind

My LO really suffers from bottom wind, but there seems to be little we can do to help it release. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated, as it really causes him a lot of pain - and us a lot of earache LOL!

Hi there.....

my baby is a trumper as well!!

From your signature, if you were due in oct, you baby is 4-6 week old???

Bottom wind is from air swallowed when feeding. So first thing is to make sure you LO is well winded from the top end. Try different positions to wind....... bending forward, over the shoulder, over the knee etc.

For bottom wind and easing tummy ache, try warm baths, massage the tummy clockwise and moving their legs as if they are riding a bike. There is also a position to hold him in called tiger in a tree or superman.. it's very comforting if he's crying. I'll see if I can find a link to show you the position. All help to ease wind

lot of luck!!!

Agree with bicycle legs (do this throughout the day, but on an empty not full stomach) and also massaging the stomach - keep your hand still, just move the tummy.

Baby massage and bending their legs up towards their tummy often helps. Sometimes I wonder how so much wind can come out of such a small tummy. And I always thought LOs would have cute little baby farts but no, Harvey's are like big manly trumps.

Hi Eala, I checked Windy-Pops online, but all the info I can find says it can't be used before three months. Do you use it even though it says this, or have you found a source that says it's OK for younger babies? Ta for your help - I seem to be asking you lots of Qs at the mo!

Hi, my HV told me that it is absolutely fine to e used on babies under 3 months - the manufacturers of these kind of things tend to be extra careful with what they will state as the minimum age. The dosage for a younger baby is 1-2 drops 3 or 4 times a day My HV also recommended fennel tea (which you can get in Holland and Barrett) - just leave the teabag for half the time you would normally (so it's fairly weak), leave it to cool, and see if LO will take a couple of sips before each feed.

I was told by my doc that Imi's big and frequent trumps were nothing to do with her feeding (and consequently taking in too much air) as this is released thru burps. Some babies just produce a lot more methane than others. He suggested baby massage, warm baths and bicycle legs. All seem to work and her wind is def a lot less now shes a bit older x
