GP surgery rant!!!

Matthew is not well (again) been fussy last few days and unsettled which we put down to teething. He has now pretty much been awake and screaming since 11pm last night!!! Up most of last night where he projectile vomited all over daddy and eventually got maybe an hours sleep. Poor wee lamb is shattered thought we were over worst of it this morn then he got really fussy and upset all over again and was bright red and roasting -checked his temp 38.6! so phoned Health centre immediately for an emergency app (this was at half 11am)

Was told a Dr would call me back shortly.....still no call by 12.30pm so called back, receptionist said DR was on house calls would be back in 15 mins and would call me then............1.25pm A RECEPTIONIST calls to say to bring him in at 4.10pm!!!!!! (do they not get its a young (premature I might add) baby with a high temp and nop one sees this as a priority!! AAGGG im just so mad.

I said that time was too late as I was worried about him can I not get seen sooner so she says oh come in at 3pm then!!! Why the f**** (sorry im raging here) didnt they say that to start with. I asked if there was a set temp not to let him go over or things to watch for, she put me on hold then asked if I gave him paracetamol (of course I did) then a DR just happened to be passing so she put him on the phone.

Explained everything and he agreed he needed to been today to come in at 3 but if he got worse to come straight in, HOW COULD THEY NOT HAVE DONE THAT 2 HOURS AGO

AHHHHHH and breathe - rant over, sorry peeps just so mad right now and feel helpless, thank god its not an emergency! x

thanks girls.

That boy of mine has a knack for making me look a liar, gave him some calpol at 2pm with 2oz milk (which came back up all over me I might add) dozed on the walk to GP and was bright as a button smilling and cooing away at flippin DR! His temp was normal and no visible signs of pain or illness!!!! By what I described she said viral (its always viral this is his 5th 'viral infection' in his short 8 months. Anyways she thinks possible viral gastro-interitus (sp?) to get plenty of fluid, paracetamol if he's in pain and no soldis for 24 hours xx

I really think doctors receptionists should be given basic medical training.

I have had countless run ins with them in my time over my own care and that of other people

I once had to intervene when I was stood behind a lady who was told she didnt need to see a doctor, and she should "take paracetamol and get some lockets" for a sore throat -she had told the receptionist she was on carbimazole tablets. This is a sign of a VERY serious condition caused by the medication and the patient could have been in a very bad way if I hadn't been being nosey and listening in to their conversation.
