weeing up his back!!

Hi All

My little one Charlie is 5 days old and has now worn about a billion different sleepsuits/vests, dreampods, and has weed on several moses basket sheets.

The problem is despite having a nappy on he wees up does so so it ends up on his back above the nappy soaking him and all his clothes in wee!

I am guessing this has something to do with his willy going up when he needs to wee, and that it happens with lots of baby boys - but I was wondering whether anyone hs any helpful tips for minimising it?

Thanks a lot

x

i had this exact problem for ages. it only went away when he got bigger. my guess is that the nappies are just too big. even though they are newborn size. try finding smaller ones. i thought it was my fault but it wasnt and it had nothing to do with his willy.

Are you making sure to point his willy downwards when you put the nappy on? One of the midwives gave me this advice in the hospital, I still forget half the time and he ends up weeing on his clothes as you describe!

I hope it's nothing to do with the willy as both my little girls did this as well!

It feels like a never ending stream of washing in the first few weeks (and it really does improve, at 4 weeks we can now wear just one babygrow for most of the day!)

As Dizzyisntacow (lol what a name!) said it's to do with nappy size and shape.
You'd have noticed he'll have very little in the way of hips, bum and tummy which makes it hard for nappies to stay secure enough to avoid leaks but will improve once he starts to put on weight.

You could try a different brand of nappies or a different size as they're all cut slightly differently and one might suit your LO better, or I've heard of many mums folding down a little bit of the back of the nappy inwards to form like a lip thing which appareently helps minimise any leaks by 'catching' it - It never worked for me personally though.

rhys did this , mpved him upto size 2 huggies natural fit as the waist band is quite thick and have good elastication at the back, and alway point his tidgy to tar downwards, you might have to trial and error a few nappies though

as the others have said , point it downwards and there should be no problem in that respect, it may be that the nappies are too big or just that they dont fit his shape too well. different brands fit all babies differently ,( for example my lo cant wear huggies , they leak every time) if you are using newborn nappies, make sure they are the smallest nb size 1 ( although i saw the other day that some brands do a early baby size too)
and if that dosnt workk try differnt brands till you find one that suits

as someone else said, in the first couple of weeks what with learning about nappies ( size and shape and getting the bib in just the right position while feeding ( incase you were wondering the only way to stop lo dribbling milk all over the neck of his clothes was to fold it right into the crease of his neck under his chin )
etc.. there is alot of washing going on , but after the first weeks it gets much better

Thanks everyone... I do point his willy down but I think the fact he is little and the nappy doesn't quite fit means that there is room for it to rise when he needs a wee.

Going on a mercy dash to mothercare for a feeding bra so will also check out whether there are any smaller nappies... He was 7lbs when he was born but he is scrawny little lad... His dad says he has legs like kermit the frog! (and he's not wrong!!)

Earl has this problem too.....we use Tesco's own and I make sure that the tabs meet in the middle and the problem doesn't occur then. I#ve checked and they're not too tight (can still get a finger down if needs be etc) but they're tight enough not to leak up his back. Boots own are terrible as they dont ride as high.....we're trying Asda's own at the moment and they seem ok. It's all a matter of 'security' of the nappy fastenings with Earl so maybe try that. - I also feel your pain as we went through 8 sets of clothes in 36 hours when we were staying at MIL's.....had to borrow her washing machine at 2am as we had nothing left for him to wear!
