Sleeping - worried pls read

Since he was about 2 weeks old tommy has started spending more and more time awake in the day, almost literally growing more with each day but the last 2 days he has been sleeping basically all day? When he is awake hes very alert and looks around lots but from about about 11 till now hes bin asleep, only waking for feeds. He stayed up for about an half hour for his bath and about an hour during the afternoon. Otherwise he wakes up, starts whinging for food then after feeding for about 10 minutes starts to drift off while on the boob. He carries on drinking while hes asleep and hes still feeding well (for about half hour/40 mins every few hours) and im not sure if hes maybe awake in the night coz he doesnt make a fuss at night if hes awake in his cot, hes very good at seemingly entertaining himself...even still should he rlly be sleeping all day??
am i right to be worried?

It sounds normal to me too, Euan when he was that little would be more awake some days and then obviously tired himself out that he would sleep alot the next day. Someone once gave me a guideline for how long babies sleep i cant find it sorry but at your LO age they should be sleeping about 16-17 hours a day i think. I will try and find it.

The constant sleeping can be a reaction to a growth or development spurt. Unless he is really listless, pale, floppy, feverish etc., he is probably just fine. Does he wake to alertness several times a day?
