Is there a certain amount of time a baby should be swaddled?

My son has trouble staying a sleep once he gets tired. He fights his sleep alot. The only way I have found to make him settle is to swaddle him. He usually sleeps for about 3-4 hours and then I change him, feed him and I talk to him for a while and then he gets sleepy again, but fights it. My question is: Is it ok to leave him swaddled in the time that he sleeps (3-4 hours) or should I unwrap him when he is sound a sleep?

I understand that it's fine to keep LO swaddled all night. However, opinions vary massively as to the age at which you should stop swaddling.

Baby will let you know when they dont like swaddled any more. my 1st was swaddled for a few months he loved it but no2 only liked it for a few weeks then fought against it. We're at 4 weeks with my 3rd and we swaddle her quite loosely so she can peek her hands out the top if she wants but still has the comfort of the shawl being tighter around her body - makes them feel secure. if your LO is happy with it then carry on.

I think your baby will make the decision. I never swaddled he hated it from birth he had to have both hands free.
