Childcare

I am going back to work in Feb, part time (2 days a week, hopefully).

The only nursery I like has a long waiting list, so there are no guarantees that LO will be able to go there for the two days.

I don't like the other local nurseries and wouldn't be happy leaving LO at any of them.

I have some questions about nannies/child minders and would be grateful if anyone could answer them!

Thanks in advance.

1) on nannying websites, fees are about £300 for two days...is this a one-off fee to the website, or a monthly fee? or a fee on top of the nannie's wage? OR is this the nanny's fee?

2) Does anyone have a rough idea of how much a nanny would cost for two days? (south east)

3) What have your experiences of nannies been like?

4) What can I expect to pay a child minder?

5)What have your experiences of child minders been like?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks again. X

I found this website very hepful when comparing costs. I need to start now as my OH was told this morning he was not being made redundant!!

No experience of using a child minder, but my Mum was one while I was growing up. The house was always happy and busy, and I would consider using a child minder. I like the ideas of nannies, I'm looking for one who look after LO one-on-one for a few hours a week.

Childminders here charge £3.75 to £4 an hour.

im looking into childminders locally (NI) the average rate seems to be between £4.60 - £6.00 per hour...................
not sure about nannys as its not something ive looked into... i think a childminder is the way forward for us, i want Ruby to be socialising a little with some other babies as she loves them, but not to be 'lost' in a nursery environment just yet....

Also, some Nannies will allow you to "share" with other parents which could help keep costs down so could be an option. I'm looking for a chilminder. Like NIfirsttimer I'd prefer Ellis to have more immediate care in a homely environment as well as the fact that nurseries are not flexible as OH works shifts and I refuse to pay for a service I will only use half the time, esp at £50 + a day like they are here!!

Yeah I totally want Ruby to be looked after in a home environment. My mum friends don't want to use childminders because they don't want their baby to 'bond' with someone else but I'd much rather Ruby did, surely that's more comforting for her, and therefore for me.
