I sometimes feel like Noah is a different baby at night. He settles well in the day but at night he screams, and seems to be trying to poo (legs pulled up) but cant go. He seems relieved when he does go. Ive been using infacol to get wind up but im reducing the use as id read it can constipate them and I so dont need that. Noah rolls himself onto his side which seems to settle him more but to be honest the last few nights we've paced the floor for hours, thankfully my mum did it last night so I just got up for feeds. D you have someone who can come and help for a few nights?

Oh you poor thing. I won't pretend that we had it that bad but we certainly had our nights. And even though it took a while to get there it was to do with wind - either end. And you are right, there is certainly no such thing as 'just' wind at 3am when your baby is screaming and purple and you are so sleep deprived and anxious that you would literally give anything to make them feel better.

It's also worth noting that some of the things you describe may not be symptoms of whatever is worng - ie there was nothing 'wrong' with Matilda but she would feed every hour at some points during those early weeks and had nights of constant screaming due to wind.
There are lots of likely causes suggested in this post so persevere with healthcare professionals - you know something is wrong so don't let them fob you off.

One little suggestion to get you out and about which will be good for both of you is to put him on his front in the pram. As long as you watch him he will be fine and the movement might help soothe him.

And lastly - don't beat yourself up about not enjoying your baby. I'm sure lots of people will back me up on this but I found it took 6 weeks to get my head round the day to day stuff and another 6 weeks to relax a little and start enjoying her.

Take care

Hx

Hun I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with Monty. All the babies in my family seem to have problems with reflux. James is on gaviscon atm to help him because otherwise he throws up into his mouth all the time. My sister had the same problem with her LO and in the end she started putting him to sleep on his tummy. It was the only way he would settle and as soon as she started putting him to sleep on his tummy he started sleeping pretty much through the night and within about a week he was sleeping through. He used to scream and scream and she had to give up breastfeeding at 2 weeks because she just couldn't keep up with him. He is now so much more settled and happier. It does sound like he has a bit of silent reflux. We were lucky with James in that he had very obvious reflux so I was able to get him on the meds at 13 days and he is now a whole lot better. However if I miss gaviscon in a feed he is a nightmare. If you think there is something other going on then persevere with the drs hun. They dont always know right and he is your baby and you will know him better than they do. Hope things get better for you soon (oh and dont feel guilty for swearing at Monty...I swore at James at 1.30 this morning when he was crying despite having had 5oz of milk and being absolutely fine lol).

I wanted to second what petal040 said about holding the baby across your forearm - this was the only way we could settle Violet when she had colic, swaying her gently back and forth.

Don't forget that with reflux, they will want to feed more often because the milk going down the throat will soothe the pain initially. So don't listen to everyone who says that increased feeding automatically means a growth spurt.

I also found that holding her on her side rather than on her back helped settle her aswell.

Infacol needs to be used with every feed to get maximum benefit.

Also keep him upright as much as possible for about half hour after a feed - if it's reflux then this will help

Hope things start getting better soon x

Hi honey,
I feel so much for you. I am in tears here reading your post as I could have written exactly the same thing right now and I know how hard it is to enjoy someone who is so demanding and hard work.

I have had my wee one on Gaviscon for 10 days now, you can use gaviscon liquid that you can buy in the supermarket 2.5ml or get the nfant Gaviscon from the doc. It has helped my LO but she is still crying and screaming.

She had her 1st session of Cranial Osteopathy yetsreday and she does not ave the constant frown which she used to have but she has only slept a total of about 6 hours in the last 28 and that was broken into 1/2 chunks.

You know your baby and if you feel he is crying for a reason the definately go and see what can be done to help him. I hope you get some help soon. If you need soemone to chat to pm me, I know exactly how you feel.
