I'm a terrible mother (and an annoyed one)

Feeling so bad and guilty

JJ was in his bouncy chair on top of the coffee table - we keep him there as OH has a dog who sheds a LOT of hair and is also kinda skittery jumping when he gets excited etc so we thought the coffee table being a big one would be a safe place to put the chair - WRONG!!!

I was in the kitchen making OH and I a cuppa and was on way back in when I heard a crash and a huge scream. JJ had bounced or jumped and the chair had fallen off the table. When I got in the chair was upside down hanging between the table and the fireplace. I screamed for OH (he was upstairs) and lifted the chair as I couldn't get at JJ.

My poor lil baby was hanging out of the chair head down I'll never forget it as long as I live. He had a big scrape on his head and a couple of smaller ones too

I should have realised as he's getting stronger now that he's more mobile and could possibly move the chair how f'ing stupid can one person be???

We went straight to A&E only for things to get worse...

In the car on the way (I have no idea whatsoever how the hell I drove btw) poor JJ was screaming and crying but then kept drifting off so of course we thought concussion and all sorts. Explained this to them in A&E thinking possible head injury ok he's going to get seen quickly. NOPE.

We were sent to the kids treatment area and we were the first ones there. Other kids came along afterwards til the room was well filling up. So there's me (dumb bitch) thinking my son was first and bumped his head so thats pretty priority right?? WRONG again!!!

2 kids who came in after him were seen first - one with a tummyache and the other with a sore toe!!! WTFFFFF!!! Fair enough if it was a child in a bad way but a TOE. I was fuming by the time they called us but said nothing as I just wanted JJ sorted.

Doc eventually brought us to a cubicle and checked him over...the good news is that he's fine just got scraped, his soft spot is fine and no signs of concussion or anything else. So we're really relieved at that

Learnt a big lesson though - as soon as we got back JJ's chair got moved to the floor and blocked in by chairs to keep the dog out

You're not alone hun. A few weeks ago I put Evie in her highchair with some toys while I was washing up. Huge crash and scream behind me and I turned around to see Evie on the floor - the hard, tiled floor - with a huge lump on her head. I hadn't clicked the table tray in properly so it had pushed off and she came crashing to the floor head-first with it. I felt so terrible. Could have vomited I felt so awful for screwing up. We took her to A&E and she was fine too. Just have to learn from it and move on. We're all going to make a mistake or bad decision at some point. Feels horrid at the the time though so huge hugs to you.

we've had accidents today too. first he smashed his head on a pile of videos and had a red mark, then he fell off the couch and landed on his back. i've been at work all day and only found out about it when i returned. OH has been feeling so guilty about it all day even though it was an accident. from now on both me and OH are going to be more aware of where we put him and watching him more closely.

glad your LO is ok, doesnt half shake you up though!

Thanks everyone - we're so relieved he's ok but kicking ourselves for putting him in that position in the first place, especially me - it's a mum's place to protect her kids and I'm not doing a great job of it if today is anything to judge by.

Don't make yourself feel bad about it hun, we all make mistakes and he's fine, he will have forgotten it already! Its always mam who feels worse than the baby!
