Looks like I'm on my own here in not thinking 6 month olds can have tantrums! But found this article:

you're not on your own. claire. my LO does this very same action and i would not classify it as a tantrum. a tantrum is an outburst of emotions.

She will just randomly do it, but she'll also do it say if i give her a bottle and she doesnt want no more, and when i put her down for a nap she'll do it ( if i ignore her she just goes off to sleep ).
sounds more like LO trying to find a way to communicate what she wants (or does not want), not necessarily throwing a fit.

I think a few babies do this and I believe it has more to do with crying as an outlet or a way of communicating or expressing their feelings. not the outburst the word "tantrum" connotes.

Quote:
A tantrum is an emotional outburst of ill humor or a fit of bad temper wherein the 'higher' cognitive functions are unable to stop the emotional expression of the putative 'lower' (emotional and physical) functions. It can be categorized by an irrational fit of crying, screaming, defiance, angry ranting and a resistance to every attempt at pacification in which even physical control is lost. The person may not stand or sit on their own. Even when the "goal" of the person is met, he or she is not calmed.
i think 6 months is a bit too young to have the complicated emotions resulting in tantrums.

I wouldn't say Violet has "tantrums" because I associate that with spoilt little brats not getting their own way! (not saying anyone's LO here is a spoilt brat lol, I just don't class things as tantrums lightly)

But she definately gets frustrated and has little outbursts. If I can figure out why she's frustrated then I'll obviously help her, if not I just distract / play with something else
