thank you all...well, DD has been up since 11:30, and has only just drifted to sleep in the Baby Bjorn. She's been frantically trying to suck her hands and thumb, but hasn't worked out how to keep them in there yet!! I let her have the dummy for a couple of minutes, she drifted off, I removed it - put her down, she woke up! Proferred dummy again, and she spat it out.

She doesn't want to comfort suck on me, as I have a fast let down...and she gets upset with the milk coming out.

Not sure how to progress her comfort sucking, as it's clearly what she wants to do!! Dummy seems most favoured option - but I know if there are occasions she doesn't want it, I'll totally freak out and worry.

Not sure what to do!!

Carter is the same he usually likes to suck on it when hes fussy after a feeding than he will usually pass out and spit it out i only use it when hes really fussy not all the time. Like if he is sleeping i will usually wait for it to fall out and take it just because i dont want him needing it all the time. I think its a personal thing some people dont even use them at all. I would also rather him suck on one than his hand or thumb as i worry about buck teeth lol

Ok, DD is having the dummy - she started crying after her feed this morning...got agitated with the boob and furious that she couldn't keep her thumb in her mouth. She had so many real tears, I felt awful. I proferred the dummy, and she fell asleep in about two seconds.

I phoned the FSID helpline, and they said it's great that she'll take it - stats show it can reduced SIDS, but we must remember to give it to her before all naps. I have a feeling she'll remind us. Apparently it's not a problem if she refuses to take it.

thank you and for all your reassurance. I'm a real worrier, and it's so nice to get advice from rational people!

please don't panic about it hun it's fine

however, if LO is taking a dummy well and its not interfering with the latch when feeding then you've no reason not to use one if you feel its best for you...entirely your choice

i agree , they say not ot use one for the first month ( for latching reasons ) your baby is now over a month anyway and if she is still feeding fine after using the dummy i dont see a problem.
my lo was very sucky too, he had a dummy from day 2 for sleeping ( ff so no latch worries )
good luck , dont worry

Thank you...sometimes googling can lead to all sorts of panic, so much conflicting advice! I didn't know what on earth to think!

She's just settled for another nap, this time refusing the dummy (!) but guidelines say not to force her if she doesn't want it. She seems much happier since having it this am.
